Default Life...

Well... yesterday ranks right up there in the "Worst Days" Dept.

I took my dog to the vet yesterday 'cause he started bleeding... Rushing him to the vet clinic, I get pulled over by an inept cop who cites me for my expired tags (I told him I had just moved and I hadn't unpacked the damn tags renewal form). Keeps me there for a half-hour 'cause he doesn't know how to operate the computer in his vehicle...

I get my dog to the vet, they run some tests and I come home with a leash and tears in my eyes 'cause I had to put him down (not 'cause of the cop, it was the dog's time 'cause something ruptured in his head... )

Anyway... the dog was a 175 pound Malimute, Shepherd mix... he was by far one of the smartest dogs I'd ever had. He had learned to roll down the windows in the car, open doors and understood a lot of the human vocabulary. Also had the best temperment... never hurt anything or anyone.. Gonna miss him...

Anyway... as the title says... Life...

Dude, I feel for you. Harley is getting way up in years and I don't know how I'm going to act when I finally have to put him down. He's not my dog, he's my bro.

Oh man.. I'm so sorry, Dark. I know your pain. Thursday marks 2 years that my dog's been gone. I watched them put him to sleep. We had him for 10 1/2 years. It's really hard to lose a close friend, when they've been around for so long. I cried for 2 days after my dog went. I'm very sorry, man. At least your dog isn't suffering anymore. I know that's very little consolation, cuz it never works for me, but it's still good to keep in mind.

Damn DS I don't know what to say. I haven't had a dog in ages but I remember when when my cat had to be put down (I trained him to do dog sttuff) when I was away doing my Navy thing. Needless to say, It wasn't a good day.

Yesterday was a bad day for others as well. RH9 got in a car reck and nearly killed his friends, Nvidia is now Killing 3rd party drivers, and DS's Dog passes away.
Its hard to lose family, I know how you feel.

not to downplay anyone elses misfortune, but i got paid yesterday and it was my day off, so think of me if you need some inspiration

seriously tho, i had a half miniature collie/pommeranian mix named Lizzie, was the sweetest natured dog imagineable...a perfect lady to everyone and jealous as all get out when either me or my brother brought girls home, lol

she walked outside one day, layed down in a bed of flowers, and passed away without making a sound...

she is missed

Yeah, had that dog 13 years... half my life...

Anyway... he had a good run... Still expect to trip over him everywhere I go. He always made sure he was right in the way...

Anyway... technically... he was the family dog (still as much of the family as any of us)... My dog is 14 (Hyperactive Lab/Springer mix) and my cat is striped with white (for a pure black cat it's an indication... I don't know how old he is 'cause he was a stray when I found him).

So, I've got two more of these to go through... probably pretty soon 'cause they're getting up there... then I'm not getting any more pets... I'm done with having to worry about 'em all the time...

When (if) I have a kid, I'll probably get a cat or a dog so they can have one (I think it's important to have a pet with kids... establishes a respect for other living things)... but 'til then... I'm goin' pet free for awhile... I wanted to travel a bit (out of the country) and I'd never put 'em in a kennel...

Anyway.. he had blown hips (gave him meds every day to keep him mobile), had a lump in his stomach, fluid on his knee... but he kept on truckin' until we ran into something we couldn't fix and have him still have a good life...

Man, I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure most of us have been there. They aren't just animals, they're friends. Time heals pain bro, but that doesn't help you now.

My dog duke was 17 years old when he finally couldnt take it anymore. we got him when i was 3 years old, he was only 1 year younger then i was. he would do anything for us, my father and i would always go body surfing on the coast, he would try to follow us and just get pummled by the waves, but he kept paddling out to us. this dog never bit, i remember riding him like a horse when i was young. he was a english springer spanial, best dog ive ever known. he never stopped, up until the day he died, he was always moving. our back yard had a 1 foot hole all the way around the outside of the fence where he ran, just in circles around the yard all day. the day he ran off into the woods i knew exactly what he was doing, he went looking for peace. i beleive he found it.

My condolences DS, I have been there several times and more than likely will again relatively soon with my Maine Coon cat - found him as a kitten hiding and terrified in our garage my senior year in HS ('88-'89) and I was the only one he would come to when we all tried to feed him. It will be especially hard when he finally makes that next transition.

I dont know what I would do without my cat.....I always havto protect her from my dad because sometimes she pisses on the guest bed downstairs for no reason and he gets raging mad and try's to beat the **** out her....or does if im not around....then he always throws her outside for 3 or 4 days...but I let her live in my room for the nights cuz she gets scared outside....I would be flattened if she died...
