| On my "To Do" list was "Ressurect my AMD K-5" (Right before "Convert a ton of crap to CD so I don't have to worry about magnetic media" (I've had more problems with the sound... anyway... longer story). The "Long" Version. System Specs: AMD K-5 133 (running at 166). 40 Megs EDO SIMMS RAM 1.2 GB Conner Hard-Drive ATI 3D Rage Card 200 Watt AT PSU 52X Lite-On CD-R (The 6X drive I had in it died) 3.5 Drive I began my journey thinking the hard-drive was shot... turns out the IDE cable popped off the board, but still LOOKED in place... then I hadn't located any of my 3.5 disks, so I ended up hunting around for a boot disk. Then... I find out my old K-5 has Win98.. 1st edition! So I update with Win98 2nd edition... which by Update, I mean RELOAD 'cause 98 1st edition can't be upgraded by a full version Win98 2nd edition disc... As it is now... the windows drivers disk for my "OPTI MAD16" Sound Card (one of many SB clones during that period) won't work, but as I'm only really using the DOS portion of it... it doesn't really matter! Also, it absolutely REFUSED my mouse... I finally hunted down my old Logitech mouse... This rig doesn't have any PS/2 or USB ports, so I had to adapt a serial port and the old style keyboard plugs... It decided it liked that, but it's a good thing I know how to get around Windows by keyboard In the end, it's operating over my KVM switch, so I don't have to deal with my old 14" No-Namer monitor. Wish my Mobo would recognize more than 2 megs of video memory though... it'd help a lot... Regardless... Viva Life! I am now able to play Shadow Warrior, Blood (1), Duke 3D, Doom, 7th Guest, King's Quest and many more! The graphics suck really bad, but I missed those puppies! The "Short" Version. Running all my old DOS games... life is good! Oh! BTW: I also found out I CAN run my playstation through my computer... So, life is good. I'm still having issues with the audio, but that's everything right now... I swear, when I need an input, I have an output... when I have an output, I need an input! Anyway... sorry for "War and Peace", but I'm kind of happy I finally got the friggin' thing runnin'! (I've been working on it at night, so it's a little here, a little there... takes a long time to get crap done that way...) | ||

| I've got 2 80 gig drives on my main rig (1.5 Ghz P4)... so I've been usin' that for MP3s... plus I also have the SB Audigy card, and 5.1 speakers... My other rig (Athlon 1800+) is going to be turned back over to Win98 as well for a project I'm thinking of doing called "Tweaking the Crap out of Windows 98". I'm sure not EVERYONE here uses XP. | ||

| Zen... no "2"... just Playstation... One of these days I'll buy a PS2... but my computer comes first (right after the "New Car" thing). I need to move to a GF 5900 and somethin' in a 2.53 Ghz or better processor... Right now though, I'm ekein' my way by until I move again (at which point, I'm hoping to have a life again). I've played Onimusha (almost all the way to the end)... but there isn't much out for any of the consoles I like well enough to lay out heavy green for 'em. If it is good, the computer version is usually better anyway... and software goes "Bargain Bin" fairly quick! Basically, I'm running it over RCAs into a S-video jack via an adapter (that came with my video card). I'm still working on the sound portion though... The only input that works properly is the microphone input, and it doesn't sound very good... So I'm still playing with that to get it to work. The video capture software is a little picky as for as sound input. | ||

| Jcar I'm also ripping "Daria" and "Stessed Eric" (British cartoon that's pretty warped) episodes to CD so I don't have to worry 'bout the VCR tape messin' up (It's not like I can find 'em anymore... Yes, I know Daria is also on "The N", but they edit the crap out of 'em). So, I spent tonight working on the audio issue... finally got it resolved when I disconnected my Web-Cam... for some reason it (the software) kept trying to record off the built-in microphone instead of the line in... I told it where to go, but it kept ignoring me... as I don't use my web-cam anymore really, it's not a big loss anyway.... Works like a champ now... weird ![]() Anyway... I'm now going to surf for sites on how to convert MPEG formats to DIVX. A single cartoon is 330 megs on my rips so far, so I need to get that puppy compressed back down. It's not like I need award-winning clarity from an old VCR tape and crappy reception... Gainward "WInProducer" software kind of sucks in my opinion... but I haven't played with many of them, so I can't say if they're all this limited or not. | ||
