| Well, today I decided to finally put my computer back in its case. It has been out of its case for about a month or so now because I have been constantly measuring parts and what not for my upcoming project. Of course I used the bed as my workbench. That was wrong move number one. The little space caused me to put it on the edge of the bed. Then, after installing almost all the components and whatnot, I found that I needed a longer IDE cable. So, I left the computer on the edge of the bed while I got a chair so I could look at the top of my closet for an extra cable. Wrong move number two. Whilst I was looking for this cable, I heard a sickening crash. I turned around and to my dismay, the entire computer laid on the hardwood floor flat on its back. I sat and stood there for a moment and just stared. Then I crouched down and picked up the pieces, carefully surveying them for any signs of missing capacitators or the like. Thankfully, I found no real problems with anything. After taking the mobo out so that I could force the removable tray back in to position and reinstalling the parts, I pressed the power button and waited anxiously. And I sat staring at the screen.... Nothing. Now I come to the fellow pimps and pimpettes for advice. Nothing comes up on the screen but everything seems to be running properly. No sound out of the speaker or anything. Any suggestions? | ||

| Its an amd setup. I was thinking it might have chipped the core too, but I was hopping for other things to check first cause I think I am out of AS3. Atleast it wasnt a new setup. I have been due for an upgrade for a while so maybe this is a sign from the computer gods that it is time. | ||

| Well, I took out all the components again and reseated them. Tried once more and got the same results as before. So, I found my old video card and put it in. And thankfully, the machine POSTs. Im so happy. Now I just have to find the stinking Windows XP cd so I can install an os. My only worry is for the hard disk because it took a mighty jolt. Hopefully it didnt cause too much damage. But today has become a happy day once again. ![]() | ||

| what happened to your vid card?? is it ok?? O, if you ever do put stuff on the bed make sure it is laying down on the center of the bed (and no one or thing can get into the room to jump on the bed). I always like putting systems together on something like a kitchen counter that is tall and unmovable. | ||

| Direct Cool Hoe | ...All the "good" lessons in life don't come cheap... I modded my ground strap and clip to "industrial" strength because it kept comming loose...when my cat leaped up to the workbench and knocked down my 7.00 floppy drive, like a 'tard I went for the save and pulled my then new case to the floor...ain't it cool how modding seems to perpetuate? | |
