If he's your idol, tha means I could be too. All I'd have to do is nick a software idea, reverse engineer it and then re-program it, making it worse than it ever was before...

Please do not forget that the OS was already "stolen" once before Bill had the chance (original OS was Xerox's property but was stolen by Lil Stevie Jobs when they didn't show enough interest to use it for a personal computer).
As far as making it worse than it ever was before, the true DOS versions of Windows were the most stable ever, they have just gotten worse since.

Actually, Bill got started with his fortunes with MS-DOS, which was, you guessed it, "stolen". And he only got the chance because IBM's first choice for an OS, the guy who made DR-DOS was out on his yacht of something when IBM came calling. So they went to Bill and Paul over at Microsoft.

Then came Windows, which was based upon research done at Xerox PARC, and stolen by both Apple and Microsoft, ie: the whoel mouse and gui thing.

But as much as I love to bash Bill and MS products, you can not argue with the fact that he has been very successful and that without the MS products we would not be anywhere near where we are in the computer and tech field.

DOS

Dick pretty much said it. Though the idea that Windows and the mouse were stolen is still in contention.

From what I learned, XEROX invited both companies to theri PARC research center and showed off all this tehcnology that their Big Cheese has not interest in and thought was useless and that they were pretty much given carte blache.

Bill Gates is just lucky and a lil smart. Didn't he pitch DOS to IBM without even having it?

heh i found this funny. it was actually news worthy to put up that one of their offices is finally using "completely licenced" software.

Okay, so maybe they didn't tehcnically "steal" it, but either way it was not technology or concepts that MS or Apple came up with on their own.

BTW, that link is GREAT!

I got a "Lastest Headlines" tab in my Firefox, which has headlines from different articles all from BBC. Good reading.
