Default Dang gas prices are insane!

I put $30 of gas in my nissan 4 banger truck, and it was not totally full! Ouch, $2.79 a gallon for unleaded here. The bad thing is this is not the traditional spike for vacations.

Why the heck do energy companies still say the price is high because of an 'unexpected' increase every summer and every winter? Have they not heard of a damn calander!?

Well, I think it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. The gas you will be getting soon will have ehtanol (sp) instead of the old mtsb (sp, wtf) additive you used to get. And it appears we have a bit of a shortage of ethanoll (sp).

NostraFred_G predicts this: a 3$ a gallon soon, then a drop down on the price, then a big increase to around $4 a gallon this summer.

God I hope I am wrong!

Have a good one all!

$2.89 here and climbing. And unfourtunately, your probably right about it getting worse before getting better. Like I said in my GE Windfarm thread a minute ago, if we could only tap the massive oil supplies we have in Alaska, the prices would fall dramatically.

Imagine how guys like me with high-compression engines that can't run piss gas feel. 3.09 for 93 here.

There's a place locally that always charges like .20 less for gas, so I can go there and get 93 for like 2.89

Yes i am hearing that Fred_G gas here in NY has already hit the $3 mark and diesel is already up to $3.15 a gallon, i hope you are wrong about it hitting the $4 mark but what can you do,The government has by you know what and we need to have fuel to run. From what i hearing a barrel is up to $75 unbelievable and it seems to me the customers and the consumer are the ones that are paying for it with a very big price attach to it.

I figured out why they wont use ethanol (pure 100%) for cars

Read-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethanol

Because its used in Alchol! So the government (or who the hell ever) doesnt want people getting drunk and end up killing people...But hey, you know what that means right....

You can run your car off of 100 Proof Vodka! (or some grade that has higher than 75% of alchol content, atleast thats what Im guessing)

Yea! I noticed that. Diesel is as much as high test! I remember a couple years ago it was like a buck! Now thats price gauging, since diesel is a much less refined form of gasoline.

You should start going to bio diesel.

Have you tried the octane boosters at the auto place? I heard they can be better than premium, but that is what I heard. If they work, you save money, it they do not, then dang, we both wasted our time reading this!

Have a good one!

Actually Chevy already makes a few, and a few others are planned for release soon. Here's the issue though - it's hard to sell anything that gets only half the fuel economy running a fuel. So you can get 400 miles out of a 20 gallon tank normally, now you're looking at 200-250 miles between fuel ups. Or you can put huge tanks on a vehicle, but the weight of it and the fuel causes even worse fuel economy numbers and a product that's marginally cheaper to produce. When I'm in Southern regions where I have to fuel up with 10% ethanol fuel, my fuel economy drops 5%.

To make straight ethanol fuel attractive for the reduced performance and added in hassle - petrol has to raise a fair bit more to make it attractive for the main stream.

Check your spark plugs after running 4 tanks of fuel with that in it and get back to us. Most of the non-lead additive octane boosters I've tried, known others to try leave some fun white deposits on the spark plugs.

Diesel is no less "refined" than petrol fuel. It's got a higher carbon chain count which allows it to be removed first.

I think I saw in the news about gas being over $4.00 a gallon in New York City. Im glad I dont have to drive. Even when I do get my license I'm not going to be driving very much. My bike gets me where I need to go just fine.

Those bottles raise your octane level 1/10th of an octane.

It works, but it is more cost-effective to buy straight 93 than 87 and adding octane booster.

Another thing, I have a 15-gallon tank and I average about 400 - 430 miles to a tank of gas, and 450 if I drive like a little old lady. Most of you know that I have a 1994 Probe GT, what a lot of people don't know is that the V6 models are equipped with VRIS (Variable Resonance Induction System) and when the engine exceeds a certain RPM, two solenoids open to allow more air into the engine. One opens at 3500rpm and the other at 4250rpm.

As long as it doesn't reach those speeds it gets GREAT gas mileage for a V6. My mother's 2002 Nissan Altima has a 2.5L 4-cylinder and I get better gas mileage than her.

The problem with that is that i would not mind but a lot of places i get diesel from is where the company i drive for tells us to get are fuel from and is also in are the fuel network for the company , i know they do get some sort of break but i am sure it not real big one and we get are diesel mainly from T/A truck stops.

j-dogg, i am not sure down where you live, i know up here across the northern states where i drive the most diesel is a lot more then gas is, i was just out in Rapid City,SD not to long ago it was around $2.98 i am sure it has gone up by now.

Are most cars able to run on ethanol though? I was under the impression that the car needs a certain engine.

A month ago I would brag to people that my Ford Escape Hybrid never filled over $30 and that I'd refuel every 300 miles. So much for that.

Nah they dont need a special engine. In brazil and some states they put 5 to 10% of Ethanol in the gas. In brazil I believe its up to 30%.

Most are designed to operate on 15% to 10%. Because higher alcohol concentration in the fuel greatly increases the risk of pre-ignition need for extremely retarded timing it's not common. Chevy has produced a few for a limited market in Nebraska and other related states that produce Ethanol for a test market.

It's because of the octane additive pack required beyond 10% become more costly to use it in a current gasoline vehicles.

What really confuses me on the prices on fuel is why does it seem to be more expensive on the eastern and western seaboards states, and it much cheaper in the mid states, should it not be the other way around since it would cost more money to ship the fuel to the mid states.

On this topic what i think is funny and shows how full of it the leaders e have are is that even though they blame gas prices on costs per barrel, yet the major companies have had record gains this past year and what not. ( Saw it on CNN the other day- their stocks especially) I would understand maybee some gain if not not much change, but record gains?!?! Come on they're full of it.
