Talking awwww yess, fresh install. Ur not fully clean unless ur zest fully clean..

well i just formated and im installing XP sp2 right now. after such an old install my pc started to feal a little less up to par than it used to. small things here and there where getting real annoying, and after several spy/virus scans in normal and safe mode i came to the conclusion that i have recently just been real lazy at keeping my files organized and not deleting stuff i no longer use. i checked my %temp% folder and there was a little over 400 garbage files, i neglected to clean out that folder every week like i use to.

sux i forgot to backup my bookmarks .

next on the list.

Reinstall- Office suite then sp3
Reinstall- Macromedia suite
Reinstall- Games
Reinstall- Tweaking/benchmark utilities (then run them )
Reinstall- Media players
Reinstall- Audio/Video/Photo editors
Reinstall- All Mp3's, Pics, Vids, Files and folders
Windows update.
Disable all the crap services that xp kindly includes in there "OS", LOL.

hahaha, scrolling the pages here is funny, its like a slide show cuase i dont have my vid card drivers in yet...lol

Yesss, Clean pc FTW

-edit-
and yes i do have my Anti spy and virus on right now

Yo man, I would install and run the benchys before you install anything else, the time when your likely to get your highest scores is when you've just re-installed.

just did that and am enjoying the slight bump in speeds, and the enjoyment of actuially defragging 360 gigs in a few hours rather than 2 days.

I should be due for a fresh install on my main rig in a few weeks myself. It's almost a year old, I bought my NF2 Lan Party on my birthday and that's 14 days away.

well if you have firefox go to bookmarks then manage bookmarks. then when that window pops up go to file and export then chose a place to save it.

do the same thing but chose import to bring your old stuff back.

for IE go to your hard drive then to documents and settings. then your user name there is the favorites star and open that . copy those files out to a safe place. copy them back in on your new copy.

Sounds like OH SO MUCH FUN . I'm about to add another four drive to my rig for various CRAP. so I can do the same thing EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm actually thinking of going with Vista this time just to play with it , but first its a few hours of moving folders/files/appz blah blah blah ................

I think someone should write a program that does all this for you with just the click of your mouse,. It will read your mind see what you want to do and do it for you , and It will fetch a couple beers for you while you wait too.

Its too bad you cannot simply "lock" the folders that could potentially slow down windblows. I think I am going to work on locking these folders to be readonly and password protecting the certain files that lead to normal lock up. It also helps to keep a win2k partition just for gaming.

Amen to a fresh install. We actually just formatted my friends computer last saturday and it ran soooo much better for her. And she's an average user too, just plays games and surfs the net....but it made her much happier that it wasn't as sluggish anymore.

Plus I gave her my old MX 700 Duo...she was happy that day

In Firefox, just navigate here:

C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME_HERE\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\YOUR UNIQUE_FOLDER_NAME_HERE.default (assuming C:\ is your boot drive)
From there just copy the Bookmarks.html and the bookmarks.bak files then import them as listed above or just place them back in the app data folder for the new install, overwriting the existing ones.
