| I think one of the borgs got haxed! I went to restart it and Windows said a large file transfer was in progress. I was not backing any data up, so I assumed the worst, and popped in a Linux CD, began the format and install. Then I thought, if this box was haxed, I could just pull it off my network, and then try to find out info about the supposed haxer! It was at 5% of a WU, so not much of a folding loss. This one was running XP with no service packs, cause, well, I thought it would be ok behind 2 routers and a switch, and the only internet I have done is installing F@H! I think I will put XP back on it and see what I get... Have a good one! E Well, the little 1.4GHz machine is up and folding on Fedora Core 5. Saturday I will fire up the oldest computer I have and see if it gets some hax action. E Last edited by Fred_G; 31-March-06 at 10:30 PM.. | ||

I agree with you, I should have just pulled it off the network and poked around a little. If it was acually haxed, I am sure some members here could have helped me find an IP or something. I just have never had a folding box just suddenly start a large file transfer that interfered with a Windows shutdown. If I was haxed, someone just got shut down. I just wish I had waited before the format. And this computer is a true 'borg', all it does is fold. Have a good one! E

| It's likely trying to download SP2 for you, if it's telling you its in the middle of a large download. I assume this was actually a windows message and not something that was generated by another program. The bad news here, tho, is unless you are running that box behind a router and had it's IP in one of the 192.186.whatver ranges, you got the Sober worm/virus within a minute of putting a non SP2 windows box on the net. BUT, if you have a router that gives you those IP's, then yer all set.The router pretty much takes all those attacks and ignores em. Like a cheap firewall. But that's my $.02. D | ||

Well, no mention of a Windows update was displayed, only a large file transfer was in progress, and something about if I shut Windows down, it will be interrupted. And Windows update was not turned on. And I do not think that computer even had SP1 on it! I only installed enough on it to get on the internet, download f@h, and fold. And it had been up for probably a week and a half, so Windows would have already gotten to SP2 if it was a windows update. Yeah, stupid way to run a computer, even just a borg! Was it haxed? I tend to think someone was storing stuff on the hard drive, who knows. I really wish I had just pulled the RJ45 jack out and done some investigating! Well, the little 1.4GHz machine is back up folding on Fedora Core5, and I have an old computer I might try to set up and see if I can duplicate the incident. Dang, now 75% of my home borgs are Linux! The CLI gives me nighmares, but at least the Penguin does not cost anything. Have a good one! E Last edited by Fred_G; 01-April-06 at 09:44 PM..
