Talking First DJ Job!

Yay! I got my first DJ job for a college dance party, I'm so pumped for it! If all goes well I might offer to DJ for local house parties for around $40 a night if they have the speakers (so like $10/hr) and this summer I already have a job lined up with Music 'n Motion which is a corporate DJ company. So over the summer I'll be Dj-ing for weddings and what not.

Should be fun! I love music and dancing!

Now what I really need to do is write a nice letter to the makers of MegaSeg (the best program in the world) and try to get a student discount cause $200 is quite a lot for a full time student...

IMO I think the DJ job is getting easier.

My friend has an uncle who has a 60gb Ipod. His uncle is a DJ who filled his Ipod up with all the popular music. Now whenever his uncle goes to a gig, he simply needs his Ipod and speakers.

Cool

Well for this one we used the other guys speakers and mixer. As of now I only have stuff for small house type parties.

I use:
12" iBook with MegaSeg and iTunes
160GB External HDD (19000 songs over 60 days)
Harmon Kardon AVR 140
6x Boston Micro's (easy to carry)
10" 300w Custom build Boston sub
AKG 240S headphones for monitoring and queuing

My brother works for Harmon Becker (car audio) but recieves discounts on all Harmon products and he also builds custom speakers, in fact he started a home theather company www.bullysubs.com
So anyways I may have to buy some more equipment off of him.

What I want:
Mixer
Grifin iMic (multiple audio outputs)
Some lights (strobes and blacklights)

As for DJ-ing getting easier I think it was never really that hard, i mean DJ means Disc Jockey, so all you do is putrecords on in the old days. But the trick is, knowing what people want and when. Also for excellent DJ-ing you need to be able to mix things in correctly, cut off extra long intros and outros. Those things will always be the real challenge of DJ-ing.

I talked to this guy that started his own DJ biz called "DJ Magic" and he says they charge like $400 a gig which is cheap he says to his competors which charge $800 a gig! WOW! But he does have $10,000 in equipment and 4 DJ's in his company. But still... wow...

Anyways
here are some pictures for you guys (and no it wasnt that bright in there, someone used a flash...)
