Tyr hitting the FN button, I've knocked it a couple of times and it took me ages to figure out how to get back to a standard keyboard.

On my thinkpad A20M its Fn + ScrLk (which doubles as the NumLk when Fn is pressed) Look for NumLk in tiny text above the normal text...

If all else fails... Look up the user Manual....

Usually it is the NumLock that fixes that. If that doesn't work a sledgehammer will do the trick.

Of course some of the other keys might not work after that... but the numeric keypad will definately be disabled.

thanks everyone, particularly Reza, Ward and Twizted!

The combination to unlock it was......... drum roll pls!........

'Shift' & 'Scrlk'

I have no idea how or who would have hit that to activate it!!!!

Is it the LCD itself or the CCFL that lights it? If you can start it and when it does not fire up try to get the LCD in some light and look close..... see if you cant see the Windows boot..... Its likely the CCFL is failing or the Inverter.. I know someone who might be able to help if this is the case.... what size LCD is it?

I recently started having an issue with mine... I have a horizontal line on mine about an inch from the bottom... kinda annoying... its white... so... its very noticable most of the time.. I have gotten to where I simply ignore it and I dont really notice it as much but man.... it was a pisser when it happened.... just one morning moved the mouse and bam... it appeared... oh well.....

anyway let me know how the LCD test goes....

**EDIT**
BTW I do feel like a dip now.... I relized after you posted that it is indeed the Shift key that selects that keys alt..... DOH!!! Fn only controls the keys with Purpleish blue text..... Good job though...

If i hold up a lamp to the LCD i can see the image, so i guess its the back light starting to fail, or maybe the transformer to the CCFL.. Screen size is 14.1 inches (as a guess)
