Default horizontal artifact

Ever since I installed DX 9, I get horrible linear horizontal flashes in IE 6.

The distortion is associated with images, and animated GIFS are the worst! The animated sigs, smileys, and banners on this site torment me!

Even scrolling past jpegs on a webpage will cause it.

The worst was when that dancing GF4 (click to win) was on the main page .......... "welcome to PR, here is some obvious visual coruption, and by the way, your comp is a bag of crap!"

Any how, I had a corrupt DX9 install that brought the comp to its knees. After I wiped out DX9 and re-installed it everything has been fine, except the problem above.

I have wiped out DX9 and re-installed twice. I then uninstalled DX9, and put DX8a. This seemed to help, but not fix the trouble.

Any thoughts / suggestions?

I'm guessing you have reinstalled your graphics drivers after reinstalling DX9 and DX8, right? If not... scrub them away... AntiM told me about this Driver Cleaner thing, seems to work a lil better than the uninstall from the windows thing... Which OS are you running? XP, 2K, 98? If you say ME....
I mean, come on putwig... little more information here.

EDIT: Removing comment made due to lack of sleep and too much caffiene.

Did you try uninstalling your video card drivers and then reinstalling Directx then chipset drivers, then the latest video card drivers?

Box contains a T-bird 1.2 on an Asus A7V133 with 512 mb of Mushkin Rev 2 and a Gainward GS 128 mb TI 4200.

^ Taken from his gallery post... dunno if that's the current or not.

4200 right? I'd guess you've already done the obvious. Change refresh rate and resolution? There is a DX9 Uninstaller available... http://www.softnews.ro/public/cat/14/4/14-4-48.shtml
might clean out some let overs you might have missed. PNY had a similiar problem with their cards...don't think it was just animated gifs and jpegs though. It was memory related. Try underclocking the ram and see if it goes away.

And you might try pulling the card, blowing it off, and reseating it. Hmmm...odd one. Any IRQ conflicts? Just throwing crap out there.

Did you run DXDIAG? You might try running dxdiag and dropping audio acceleration a bit. Sometimes that can help video problems.

To this day I still have trouble running any 4x.xx version of Detonator's on my Gainward Ti-4200. That is after 3 different motherboards and 3 different operating systems. I get varying degrees of strange behavior.

Soooo, I just stay with the 31.80's and everything runs great.

OK gang thank you all for posting!

I have the exact gear that outcast posted above.
I run Win ME (shut up!) but the problem is new.

Resolution is a humble 800 x 600 and the refresh rate is set to "optimal"

Tonight I:

1. uninstalled DX8 and used a DX removal utility.

2. installed DX9

3. tried installing three sets of via 4in1's the first two hung during install, the third one (which is the one I was already using) installed fine.

4. used det destroyer to uninstall det drivers and installed the newest one available.

All to no avail (except puters faster with a fresh install of 4in1 drivers).

I will try det 31.80 tomorrow BA.

Let me know if you guys have other thoughts!

Go to www.guru3d.com to get the utilities he has to completely wipe any traces of the 4x.xx drivers off your rig before you load the 31.80's. Other than that, I just wish you luck Bro.

You can never really uninstall IE on a windows system, because internet explorer is built into windows, for example go to "My Computer" and type a web address in, you'll go to the site regardless of whether IE is installed or not.

But all the same; goto Add/Remove and then "Windows Components" Uncheck IE and reboot, then go back to Add/Remove and recheck IE, then download IE SP1, Right Here.

Reinstalling IE was my first thought, but I just assumed you were running XP. When I used ME I had several problems running IE 6. Seemed like 2 installs out of 3 wouldn't perform well. I eventually just stayed at 5.5. Problems solved. A reinstall might work for you though. Worth a try.
