| One of my flatmates is in the market for some new speakers for his PC, he wants to spend under £100 if possible, and will probably be upgrading to a better sound card soon too. Bearing this in mind, what would the pimps recommend? Im pretty in the dark about speakers, ive had the same set for 3 years now. TIA ![]() | ||

| I'd go with any Logitech's that are THX certified. I have an older 2.1 THX set of Logitech's and I would only trade them in for a 5.1 THX or greater. I've got mine combined with an Audigy ZS2 Gamer sound card, and it will actually deafen you if you crank up the sound. The sub woofer hits pretty hard with the bass. Pretty much everyone that hears my computer always comments on how clear my sound is. Conclusion: get a set of Logitechs and get an Audigy card later on. | ||

| Dex, is your friend looking for a 2.1 setup, or a full surround sound set? A surround sound setup isn't necessarily better. I've seen way too many people cram five speakers on the desk in front of them because they have nowhere to mount the rears. In those cases, a similarly-priced 2.1 setup would almost certainly sound better. My wife has the 2.1 Logitech Z-3's, and the sound reproduction is amazing for "low end" speakers (though bass is a bit heavy). When I bought them a year or two ago, reviews said that the only 2.1 setup that sounded better was the Klipsch ProMedia THX. Anyway, if these Z3's sound that good, I'm sure you couldn't go wrong with the newer THX-certified ones recommended above, whether 2.1 or 5.1 (or 27.1 or whatever they're up to now). In my experience, Logitech has always provided high-end-quality products without the high-end price. | ||

| The only speakers I would ever recommend someone would be any of the Klipsch Promedia line (well not counting the old 5.1 I had to send 4 sets of those back due to bad amps). If you are going 5.1 : Klipsch Promedia 1.5 Ultra (what I have) they also make 4.1 4.2 2.1 and 2.0 sets They are by far the best sounding computer speakers I have herd. They even would out preform studio monitors that we had in the recording lab at stetson ![]() | ||

| i just bought a set of logitech z-5500s to go with the x fi platinum sound card i just bought. with the space problem of a desk, you could also go with the z-5450s. as far as i know, its the same speakers as the z-5500s but the two rear speakers are wireless for easier placement. you'll probably go over 100 pounds with those sets though unless you find an extremely good deal. how audiophilic is your roommate? would they even notice the difference between the mid quality speakers to high quality? | ||

| Honestly, if he is going to be needing sound for just while he is at his PC I would have him get a Plantronics DSP500 headset. I did a lot of research on them and got a pair for Christmas and I will never get speakers for my PC again unless it is for a HTPC. Google some reaviews on them and believe the reviews, these things are the real deal! | ||

| Wow thanks for all the replies guys (and gals ). I guess he's looking for a 2:1 set, as his room isn't that big and a 5:1 surround system isn't really practical in such a small space.Ill tell him to look into the Logitech range, also Altec Lansing, thats a name I often hear in good stead ![]() | ||

| Heh, thanks Jon but I think that may be a bit too kickass for him. I don't think he wants a lumbering great big amp on his desk ![]() I did however notice that nice little Duron system you have there, if its still available in a few weeks, ill glady take it off your hands. Just gotta sell some of my bits and bobs first to clear space ![]() | ||
