Unhappy The most freaked out I've ever been!

Well its 2:44AM and I just woke up! I had the worst dream I've every had! Now I have to give you a little background history on myself as far as dreams. I know that I dream everynight but I will only ever remember something about a dream maybe 1 time out of 3 months worth of dreaming. And never have I been aware that I was sleeping, and dreaming while it was happening(I hear this happens to some people a lot). But tonight it was different, and now I don't think I'm going to sleep the rest of the night. The really messed up thing is that it was a dream within a dream deal also.

The first dream started with my girlfriend, my best friend, another friend, and some dude I didn't know driving in my car. I know we were in Jersery and we kind of got lost. Next thing I knew I got a flat tire. There was a short period where we were outside trying to fix the flat but then the dram kind of jumped to this house and all the same people were there. Next thing I know everyone disapeared. So in the dream I started looking around the house and finally started up the stairs like in a bad horror movie. At this point something triggered within me and I realized I was dreaming and that something bad was going to happen so I better wake myself up. I'm not sure what I did but I thought I woke up and was laying in my bed. Well guess what ! I was wrong! I was laying in bed and my head was covered up? And then I tried to move to get up and turn the light on but I was stuck. I didn't feel like I was being held down but I just couldn't move. Next is what set me over the edge I was laying there unable to move or see and I heard a dog walk in the room(I new it was a dog due to the tags on its collar). That may not seem weird to you but here's the problem. 1. I sleep with my door closed and locked(habbit from college). 2. My dog is small (so you can't hear her walk really) and she doesn't have a collar/tags (permanat liscence tattoo). So now I'm freaked out even more! And at this point I once again realize I'm still sleeping and an ever groing fear/bad feeling was getting much greater... So I had to wake my self up again. This time I really did wake up and man let me tell u! I hopped right up out of be and popped the lights on...

I just had to type this out because It really had me freaked! May not seem very weird or creepy to anyone else but for me to have a dream like this and remember/be aware of it at the time its more than I'm use to. Definatlely a first for me and hopefully it never happens agian.

WHAT THE FUC*!

This is exactly what happened to me tonight!

This afternoon i came home tired from work and i layed down on my bed for to rest my eyes. I ended up sleeping...When I woke up I was tucked in and everything was locked in the house like i always do before i go to sleep. I specifically remember not doing this! you might say memory loss but I had my work clothes on! Then i fell asleep 4 hours later again and 40 minutes after i woke up and at first i could not move, scream, or open my eyes. But then suddenly i could open my eyes and everything was blurry and I saw a figure sitting on my chest. Then I could fully see and the figure was there for 2 more minutes and then disappeared and then I could move again! In my religion we believe that such creatures created by god called jinns exist which cause these events to occur. So now I am really freaked! And today is a islamic holiday which makes this even more scary.

Not being able to move for a short ammount of time may be due to whats called, "Sleep Paralasys". However the rest i can't explain, pretty spooky none the less.

I definitely know about the sleep paralasys thing, it used to happen to me alot for a while. I have had a stable residence lately and haven't had problems with it since. It is crazy though; at first you start to panic and your heart rate goes up, but breathing becomes increasingly difficult. I don't know about dreams, I don't recall having any in many years now. It really tweaks me out. I lay down and . . . BAM! I'm awake again! It feels like i get more rest during my hour + drive to work than my 5 or 6 hours laying down.

Happened to me once and only once!

Totally wigged me out... I woke up and felt like there was something sitting on my chest, couldn't breathe or move, had this impending feeling of doom, as if I didn't do something I would be dead in an instant. I mustered up all the strength I could get, counted to three and willed myself to move with all I had. Ended up flying out of bed like some sort of idiot.

Told a friend about it which was a mistake, didn't know he was into the occult. His big explaination was that it was an attack by a succubus. No disrespect to any of you out that that subscribe to these beliefs, but it didn't sound like a notion I'd want to entertain. Women I can lock out of the house are troublesome enough, I don't need the kind that come around out of thin air.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succubus

I highly prefer WrathOfSocrus's explanation. It's a sleep disorder and a lot easier to deal with than a she-demon....

I dont have dreams like that but i do have this problem of sleeping on my arms. All of my weight is resting on my arms in the night and by the time i wake up i cant feel anything. I kept hoping that it was a dream but nope. The first time it happened it scared the **** out of me because i had no feeling in either of my arms for 5 mins. I kept whacking my arm against the wall to see if i could get any feeling in it.

Give it $3.50 (sorry about the SouthPark reference).

Back to Sleep Paralysis...Wiki has a write-up on Sleep Paralysis. One thing I noted was Little is known about the physiology of sleep paralysis. So they don't know either. Some people will believe it is supernatural in orgin, others will believe there is a physical condition (brain waking before the body). Either way, you're not going to get a good nights sleep when it happens.

Side-Stepped Topic:
Since we (scientists)can't proven that they exist (jinns, oni(s), succubuses, demons) does that mean they don't exist? If that's the case then what about String Theory, Dark Matter, Ether.

I guess this sleep paralysis thing could have been what happend to me during the second half of my dreaming... And in the dream it felt kind of like fingers or small hands that were holding my down on the bed. But from what I read/understood it seems like sleep paralysis happens right before or right after you wake up/go to sleep. This happend in my dream (at least I think it was a dream), and I willed myself in the dream to wake up and move. Still gives me the shivers when I think about it.

Oh yeah and Timberwolf I greatly appreciate the south park quote! LOL I love that episode!

i had a bout of sleep paralysis over winter break but didn't know what it was at the time. woke up and realized i couldn't move. freaked the crap out of me. somehow ended up going back to sleep and it was gone in the morning.
happened to me again when i fell asleep in a car too. took a look at the wikepedia page on it and it says its connected to REM sleep. heh didn't know i could sleep that well in a car . ..

here's some causes from wiki:
Quote:
Some report that various factors increase the likelihood of both paralysis and hallucinations. These include:

* Sleeping in a supine position (facing upwards)
* Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in
* Increased stress
* Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
* A lucid dream that immediately precedes the episode

sleep in a car has pretty much all of that so guess that was the reason . ..

Wow , wierd that this topic came up. For years I was trying to figure out what was happening to me until I doscovered it bout 2 years ago.
I've talked to a few Docs bout it and even my accupuncturists and noone really knew what it was till I picked up Sleeping Disorders for Dummies,l0l0l0l0l.
I've had sleep paralysis for about 20 damn years , about 8 years ago it went away for a bit and I couold finally sleep in the daytime if I wanted with no probloems, but it's been back for a while now and everytime I sleep in the daytime I get it. Once in a while I'll get it in the middle of the night but not to often mostly it comes when I've awoken and try to get back to sleep.
Ive "sensed" , "felt", "imagined" it all during paralysis;I used KNOW there was somthing in the room with me or watching directly over me which are common symtoms, I've had hands rub me down before, that was the freakiest or I'd for some reason start to think Aliens were involved in this.
Mostly what I get hnow though is the paralysis since I know now what is going on but when I am awake and can't move I tell myself what is ging on but there is still that little bit of fear of not being able to wake up from it. The heavy breathing or hard to breath comes from your chest musclesnot wanting to move along with the body because I guess your mind says if you roll over you will fall out of your bed or the cliff you are on . I wish there was a cure for this damn thing........
EDIT: I just got doen reading Wikepedias version of it , from what I ahve read though in Dummies it is the brain's function to stop your muscles from moving like a survival instict that causes thiswe all become soemwhat immobile due to that function in the brain but some of us wake up during that session and some of us wake up EVERY TIME WE SLEEP !!!!! AARRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

My sense of this since I started reading about it this AM ...all very interesting, is that it's mostly the stress. Eliminate the stress and you're home free. Thinking back on my brief but scary episode it was during an extremely stressful life changing event.

For some reason I don't think it's stress, Iget it on nice vacations too,l0l0l0l. I think it may be that it's hard for me to breath through my noseproperly, I dunno but I wish we had a g00d doctor here on pR,l0l0l0.

NoSlak, That's may be Sleep Apnea...for sure it is if you snore. Read about it.

http://www.sleepapnea.org/info/index.html

I had that for years.... my wife had to wear NRR33 ear plugs sleeping next to me and it didn't help. My neighbors heard me snoring next door in the Winter when the windows were closed. I was always tired, falling asleep at the wheel. No energy, couldn't concentrate, slightly enlarged heat.

My brother has it and is treating it by sleeping with a mask hooked up to an air pump. He says it totally changed his health. Says he feels like a new man.

So I tried the pump. I'd rather drop dead that use that thing. Sleep specialists were making a ton of dough on me. Long story short, I went on a diet lost a lot of weight and it's improved at least 95 percent.

Sometimes it can be caused by an obstruction in the breathing passages, and surgey is the answer. In my case fatty deposits in my neck to due a gain in weight. Either way, it's a dangerous condition and can even cause severe heart problems. Sleep Apnea is an extremely common sleep disorder.

But it's not related to succubi or sleep paralysis, thank God!

Question for people who have had "sleep paralysis" or other sleeping issues, do you sleep with your head to the North, East, South, or West? I'm curious about it (paranormal and the supernatural are an interest to me. Sleep and dreams "kinda" cross with them from time to time).

Sleep apena can also result from a broken nose, sinus congession, and allegries. If it's a broken nose, then it's time for surgery. If it's sinus congession, sleep with your head on a heating pad (got this trick from a 80+ year old lady).

I know this "problem" very well, sadly... I often keep my hand/wrist in an akward position in my sleep...
Then I wake up with a "dead hand" on my arm... I really hate that feeling... the 'doc says I should consider
to wear a special night-brace... up to now, I did not yet buy it... but I might...

I do lot's of computer work (mental hospital) as I can't afford to have wrist problems...

I sleep with my head kind of pointing SOUTH WEST... I also just moved my bed room around and I know according to Feng Shui your not supposed to sleep with your head pointed towards the door. So I made sure my head is in the opposite direction of the door.
