Talking AMD stops production of Socket 939 Opterons

AMD stops production of Socket 939 Opterons

Stopped items from AMD for Q4
SDA2500BXBOX
SDA3100BXBOX
ADA3000BPBOX
ADA3200BPBOX
ADA3500BPBOX
939pin Opterons

You can see that the company has stopped production of Sempr0n 2500+, 3100+ and Athlon 64 3000+, 3200+ and 3500+, all in Processor-In-Box (PIB) format. At the end of the list, all Opterons using Socket 939. Is this a preparation for early Socket M2 launch?

This means that finding that famous CABYE Opteron will be made even harder? Drat, and I wanted to get my OC on with my next rig.

FYI... AMD is also releasing a new "E-6" steping for the lower end CPU's that is supposed to be the same silicone as the CABYNE Opterons.

The OC clock speeds may be similar, but they will only have 512K cache, all hope is not completely lost for 939.

Anybody have any idea when that may be? Early 2006?

Any early leaks or rumors about the release?

I can already see why this is happening. Now that AMD has found out that the public knows of our freindly CABYE/CABNE Opters, they're cutting supply while demand is high. Wow, economics at work.

I was very pleased to read this today.

Let's just hope the stepping remains as flexible as CABYNE with future releases.

I was gonna say - AMD denied the 939 opteron project was wiped out...certainly the lower models are an obvious choice to clear out and move on. M2 is certainly close so I'd expect to see more on the way out.
