Default Vote: Opinion on P4's

I recently bought a new laptop, my first reasonably powered machine, I went for a P4 3.4gig HT processor, 512DDR ram and a 80gig HDD, my experience of this machine was that after an hour it would begin to slow itself down becuase of the heat and became increasingly unstable. My conclusion P4's in laptops suck. I know they are more stable in desktops but the question I want you all to answer is, do you think P4's are obselete?

It could be that as your battery power reduces, the laptop compensates by reducing the cpu output. All laptops will do this. Try using an external power input whenever possible to keep it at full speed.

That and Intel CPU's throttle down when overheating to prevent damage.

You want a Pentium M. They kick Athlon ass.
