| hard drives, DVD players, PSU, floppy drives, keyboards, mice, VCRs, a security camera console [surprise - it was just a PC with an extra board for handling the four cameras], CD-ROM drives, various childrens toys, an old ohmmeter, and on and on. Anything broken ends up in a box in the garage - when it rains and Im chillin on Sundays I grab whatever is on the top of the box and have at it. Nothing gets reassembled. I sometimes save odd little parts - the keys from keyboards, the membranes from cellphones and remotes, the platters from hard drives, all the little tiny screws. Why? I dunno. Its almost as much fun as puttin stuff together. You can learn ALOT about how stuff is manufactured by breaking it down to the component level. Sometimes it gives you a clue as to how to fix a thing when the NEXT one breaks. Gives you insight how to build new stuff. -MF | ||

| Oh, definatly need to be able to click more than one. I have assembled one good laptop from 3 donars. Replaced the lcd in an lcd monitor. Computers are always apart. Had apart a 60 inch projection tv to replace a shattered front screen. Crt televisions / monitors more than I can count. Cell phones, home phones, even a satalite phone in a 14million dollar biz-jet. Security cameras, yep. Vcr's/dvd players and even a betamax machine to recover an old cassette. I have had a 16mm film projector apart, slide viewer machines. Home and car stereo equipement of all sorts. I am rebuilding a mid 80's motorcycle and have rebuilt car engines and trannies. My family and friends know I am the goto guy for trying to fix anything. | ||

| Ya, Ive taken apart almost all of that stuff to. Maybe not a Nuclear Warhead, but I have touched one. I worked as a Electronic Warfare Systems Specialist (32853) on B-52H aircraft in the USAF. 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB, SD. Rapid City South Dakota was the best looking thing I've ever seen in my rear view mirror. | ||

| Put down TV, because that was a very fond memory of one of my first "exploratory surgeries"; I think I might have been about 10 years old at the time. It was shot and was getting hauled away anyhow. Dad was an old fashioned immigrant and wasn't known for buying us much in the way of toys. Maybe that explains some of my compulsions.... I get a lot of cool stuff to take apart at work now....... Last edited by prime-evil; 18-October-05 at 03:38 PM.. Reason: clarification | ||

| hmm What have I not taken apart... TV stopped working = apart it came - it works now.... VCR stopped recording = apart it came - it worked for a while, it's been trashed.. Computer stopped working (the old one I had Single PIII@450MHz... ) = apart it came - it worked for a long time after that - and I had it OC'd to 504MHz - motherboards PCI bus finally died a few weeks ago... Monitor stopped working = apart it came - need a part....to lazy to get it...(it's in the closet - a 17" not sure what brand at this moment) Bicycle stopped working = apart it came - it works now... I could continue this list... I have not taken apart any thermonuclear devices = they all must work ![]() | ||

| I take everything appart, I took appart the lock that is on the balcony door in our suite, the doorbell mechanism on the front door, my cell phone, about 40 laptops while working at CC in tech support, too many computers to count, TV's, CRT monitors, LCD monitors, Cars (they're the hardest), printers, speakers, watches, beepers, clocks, powerstrips, UPS', digital cameras, stop lights, onramp stop lights, dvd players and computer dvd writers/readers, tons of toys from all years of my life, 35mm cameras and lenses, skateboards, bikes, toilets, sinks, doors, water heaters, washing machines, dryers, hair dryers, pda's, hot wheels cars, usb memory sticks, toasters, air conditioners, radios, keyboards, pianos, guitars. That's about all i can think of now. The reason I take things appart is usually to clean or fix them and if i can't fix them I put them back together the way I found them. I find taking things appart and puting them back together helps me to understand them better and usually gives me confidence when opperating them. I love taking appart my electronics completely or my skateboard and cleaning every piece and puting it back together again. But I'd have to say that seeing those things work better after doing so is probably much more fun. | ||
