If i remember they have no fee's until you have money payed to you or you upgrade to the premium account. When someone pays you thru paypal they charge YOU 3% *if i remember right* but if you set up and account just goto the fee's section and explains all the fee's and rates and blah blah blah you get the idea.

EDIT: heres a link to thier fee's https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/we...g-fees-outside

but set up and thats IS FREE

They only charge you if you recieve funds , if all ya do is buy then its free, its also free to transfer funds from your bank to your paypal account.

Problem with transfering funds to your pay pal acount from your bank acount is that it takes literaly 3-4 days for the funds to actually be in your paypal acount. I just have it direct withdraw from my bank acount. And if you arnt comfortable with doing that i also have it set up where i can direct withdraw out off of my credit card. I use bank acound though just so i dont have to worry about paying off my creditcard. Ive never had any trouble with it. Newegg processes REALLY fas when you use pay pal.

I avoid using PayPal all together after a run-in I had with their policy department. Seven year history, over a hundred transactions, and about $3K sent through their service when they finally demanded that I give them a bank account number or my account would be cancelled. If you read their ToS real carefully, when you give them that bank account number you are giving them total control over that account. They can lock it for months on end based upon an unfounded complaint from some jerk or they can even clean it out and you have no recourse whatsoever because they are NOT a bank nor endorsed by the FDIC (meaning they are not bound by the federal regulations governing money institutions). Most people say to get an account with $20 in it and forgoe the overdraft protection but you know what? That account is still in your name and it's activities are closely tied to your credit rating.

What do I do?

I either use the US Postal Service Money Order or I use BidPay. Clean, quick, and efficient. If someone refuses to accept either of these, then I don't need their service that bad after all.

Rob is correct. Paypal is not FDIC insured. That means two things. First they are not governed by the set of rules put forth by the feds and secondly your money that is in your paypal account is not and I repeat, NOT insured.

That means that if for whatever reason paypal goes bust any and all funds in your paypal account are simply lost.

I use it, but only have it tied to a credit card with very good fraud protection.

I have been a PayPal premium member for over 3 years, with hundreds of transactions, and thousands of dollars filtering through that account.

I have learned hard lessons... here is the benefit of some of them:

1) Open a savings account at any bank with the minimum amount of money. Use THIS account when becoming verified. That way, if you have a challenged transaction and get it locked, you won't lose anything.

2) DO NOT use thier credit or debit card. Even thier best cards have terrible rates, and it is too easy to all of a sudden owe PayPal money.

3) Get a bank debit/check card tied to the bank account I mentioned. Use THAT card for all postage for shipped goods you sell. That way, the only money you ever use is PayPal money, not your 'real' money.

4) Never leave more than about $5.00 in your PayPal account at any time. There is really no reason to let PayPal earn interest on your earned money. While you may earn 1.2% dividends on 'your' money, they are easily earning more.

5) Always calculate and include the PayPal fees, include them in everything you sell (as well as shipping). That way, you don't lose any money when someone pays you.

Hope this helps you.... PM me if you have any more questions concerning PayPal, or eBay.

My self i really do not like paypal ,but there is a lot of places i buy from that only except paypal as payment.
I do have paypal but i have a separate checking account which i only leave so much money in there, i have seen way to many people getting royally screwed with there transactions and fees. It would be safer if you ask me to just open up a seperate checking account and keep a really good eye on your money because there is always some one sending you e-mail saying to update your account, i do not open up any e-mail even if it does say paypal, to many hackers out there sending to many links that are false and not from paypal. What i usualy do is send the e-mail i get to paypal to see if it is a actual e-mail from them and they respond pretty quick. And 99% of the time it is not paypal that sends it, paypal will never ask you for personal information such as passwords or account numbers plus not send any links in the body of there e-mail saying you need to update your account. You have to be very careful using paypal. That is my oppinion so be very careful using paypal Dr3w.
