Thumbs down ATi Radeon X1800 benchmarks!!!

..and the news is not good. With performance lower than the 7800GTX overall, and a price tag $100-$150 more than the 7800GTX, it seems at least untill the R580, Nvidia can sit back and smile. It could well be, with ATi's chipset still in its first legs, that they are finding it difficult to balance the 2.

to Hardware Analysis.

Quote:
The Radeon X1800 XT will ship with a $599 price tag, which is $100 to $150 more than what GeForce 7800GTX graphics cards are currently sold at, not exactly cheap. Other models in the Radeon X1800 series include the X1800 XL clocked at 550MHz core clock and 625MHz memory clock respectively at $499, the X1800 Pro at 500MHz with 256MB of memory running at 500MHz with a $449 price tag and to close the ranks ATI will offer a X1800 LE at 450MHz/450MHz for $349 with just 12-pipelines and 256MB of memory.

I simply can't believe this...so bad for a next gen card. I'll wait a bit to see what other reviews show or if this is infact a driver issue that hinders performance....almost makes no sense.

Yea. I dont know if I would trust that review. That review was so short considering this card has been delayed several times. I will wait for another thurough review.

I'm not suprised, considering ATi's decision to abandon ship for high-end AGP models.. And the fact that nVidia's 7-series GPU's are actually 2nd-gen development into the 6-series architecture, and that this is suposed to be the first completely new architecture from ATi since 2003 or so, meaning it's likely that coming (post market-release of the series) driver updates will unlock some geniune powers of it's own (SM3 speed enhancements perhaps?), I mean, c'mon.. If the X850PE can keep up with (or in cases, outdo) the 1800Pro, theres gotta be something wrong with the drivers..

Is that what the cards are actually gonna be called? That's a lame name, they should shuck the radeon tag and get a new name for the line instead of just adding more numbers.

Consider me unsurprised. Nvidia's always been the innovator in this competition, and they've only been getting their act together more and more. ATI just scrambles to edge them out by a little bit. Looks like they can only hold on for so long

i wouldnt say nvidia has ALWAYS been the innovator. remember the 9700 pro? it was twice as fast as any other card on the market for over a year.

I'm disappointed, but still, the card isn't due to come out for a few more weeks, so they may have some bugs to work out still. With all of the extra enhancements they've made, it should be more powerful.

Right now it's Ati's time to suck wind.
(Remember what happened when the 9700 came out [Nvidia was sucking wind then].)

I'll wait until Ati has a 48 pipeline card for the PC before picking up a new one, however.

But releasing a supposed top-of-the-line card that is bandwidth inferior
to the competition's magnum is a foolish move at best.
(She maybe faster, but the bitch can't turn on a dime.
Much less a quarter.

UPDATE!

Thanks to Lokie for the link.

It turns out that the X1800XT HASN'T EVEN BEEN SENT OUT YET TO ANYONE! The article may in fact just be a complete fraud. If anything, it is based on the XL. To top it off, Sander has a dispute with ATI over some NDA agreement or something like that, so he now has what seems to be a vendetta against ATI.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26243

I dunno if I completely trust the site, but hey any news from ATI is good news on this topic.
