| Well, in light of current events happening in this country, I have decided to buy a firearm for home defense , where ever home may hopefully NOT one day be,ie. disaster shelter. Me, Former Marine but never owned a gun per se, I do go shooting at the range once in a while and drag along the wife . She hates guns. I went to a gun store today and after looking around I found a Springfiled Armory SD, .40 cal for $514 dollars. It is small enough to where she could use it and it fits nice in my hand. Are there any opinions from the gun toting members from Pimprig on this weapon ??? I still have to bring in paperwork and all that jazz and pass a test before I purchase the gun which will hopefully be tomorrow. THX in advance pimps !!! | ||

| My personal favorate handgun would be the Glock 23. That is a .40 cal that I can easily handle. I love the .45's, but they are just slightly to large for my hands. I have owned some .45's, but I think in a defense situation, I would prefer the Glock 23. If you are talking about home defense, a shotgun might be a more pratical choice. It is more of a short to medium range weapon, and very effective. Also pretty dang intimidating. You can also pick up a decent 12 gauge around here for a lot less than the one you mentioned. Good luck E | ||

I was all set to talk shop with you on this subject and then thought better of it. No disrespect to the staff of this website and the PimpRig community or any of the members, but I don't feel that the Internet in general is a secure place to discuss these topics. This is very serious stuff. I will say that given the proper lifestyle conditions, (no kids in the house, etc) your goals are a perfectly acceptable course of action, but a far as discussing the "tools" involved, your local shop or rod and gun club would be a better forum to share information than over the Net. Again, please, no disrespect to you or anyone, but public forums just aren't the place. Maybe I am being over cautious, but that's just my opinion.

I believe the topic was "Anything Goes"..........he's fine with the topic....... Myself, if my wife was going to handle a pistol, I'd be more incline to get her a 9mm.......Maybe in a Glock and that's just due to weight and recoil..........unless she's a proficent shooter. For myself, I like the H&K USP .45, loaded with Corbon Hollow-Points..............It's kinda like shooting a big ashtray at em'.......heh

| Let her shoot with it, I'm sure she will get use to it after a couple of rounds. I'd suggest getting a one of the pistol lasers that clamp to the guard around the trigger, line it up right, and she'd be a perfect shot. Here's what I'm talking about! V V ![]() here is the site: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...ound&cmCat=EOF Say's it will fit almost all pistals and it has a range of up to 500yds Hope i helped! | ||

| There are several posts on this forum about gun ownership, purchasing guns and whatnot. There was no mention of illegaly obtaining said firearm so all should be good. There was also nomention of using said gun illegaly or in an improper fashion. Home def. wise i have two that i like. My Thompson Auto Ordinance .45 or my Remington 870 Express youth model. The remington is a shotgun but is slightly shorter since its a youth model. Keeping a firearm in reach with children can be dangerous so a small bedside gunsafe would be ideal. They make ones that you put your fingers in and press a short combo to unlock. It can be opened in about 4 seconds or less provided you dont forget the combo. They even have nifty ones like http://www.gunsafestore.com/inprint.htm or http://www.copsplus.com/prodnum2554.php or even http://www.action-direct.com/dacatv2003.html Of course with my shotgun its harder to lockup for quick access. When family with a child comes over they are always locked up and put out of reach. Take your time and find a place that will let you test fire prospective weapons at their firing range. Last thing you want is a firearm you cant control. ::EDIT:: i just saw the previous post with the Ruger 22 (mkII i think). I went to the firing range with the wife so she could get a feel for my .45 S&W and the noise and kick scared the crap out of her. She shot this http://www.gunrush.com/firearm/gun/W...03-Pistols.htm that the guy in the next lane had. She put the entire clip in a good 1 inch grouping from about 20-25 yards (her first time to really fire excluding the previously mentioned S&W). A .22, .32 or .380 is easy to find in a small handgun that doesnt kick so much. Something smaller calliber may be easier for the wife to shoot. | ||

The weapons is excellent - I have owned the 4" service model in 9mm. Its kinda a cross between a Glock, SIG and 1911 design. I like the extra safety features on the XD over the Glock - mainly the grip safety. The grip safety make the gun more familiar to me becuase my main carry piece is a 1911. The XD also has the same grip angle as the 1911 so if you shoot any other 1911 the XD will naturally point the same for you. The only down side to that weapon is some people have experience problems with the finish - some say it rusts easily. I never experienced that with mine - it seems hit or miss. Mine never failed for me. They run about $415 in my area so you may have overpaid but if your happy with it thats ALL that matters. For home defense I would say a pistol WASNT the best choice - shotgun works far better. The minute you walk outside your house the shotgun isnt going to work for you, I dont recommend walking up and down the street or around your yard with a shotgun - so if thats an option the pistol was a better choice. If your state allows it I highly suggest getting a concealed carry permit. You DONT have to carry the weapon but if all hell breaks loose your NOT going to have time to schedule the class and get the permit - so do it now "just in case". My wife didnt like guns either but over the last 6 months I have slowed her "gun hating" down a bit. My theory has always been "dont count on others/government to protect you" - its nice when they do and I appreciate it but I am a realist and I saw every bit of this Hurrican Katrina situation in the works far before the lawlessness actually happen. When desperate things happen, people get desperate - damn sure better have a way to protect you and your family. It sucks but it happens, be real people.......... Anyways - back on topic. After the last weeks event my wife looks at me the other day and says - maybe guns arent so bad after all. Yep, a female with liberal gun views looks at a bunch of lawless thugs with guns shooting up the city and she didnt say "guns are bad take them away from everybody" instead she said "damn good thing we have guns". Go my wife ![]()

| For self defence? Standard 9mm glock. A shot in the arm shouldn't be fatal and do the trick. For self defence? Standard .50 Desert Eagle. A shot in arm should blow it right off, and will problably end up being fetal and do the trick. So how self defenced do you want to be ![]() | ||

| I agree with the shotgun, aaronrkelly except for one thing...........Shotguns are long and unless you live in a home that has large rooms or rooms that aren't cluttered with alot of furniture, maneuverability with the weapon becomes an issue...............
You never shoot to wound...............You shoot to STOP !!!!

| My wife was in the Army, but doesn't like guns. However, when I deployed to Saudi while stationed at Fort Hood and living in Killeen, I insisted she get one. We went to gun shop and I knew I was gun shopping with a woman when she pointed one out and stated, "That one is pretty." It was an engraved and nickel plated 9mm from a no-name company, but it would work. So I bought her the "pretty" gun. Thank goodness she never had any need to use it. | ||

| Ashtray, smashtray, why not do it with a manhole cover-firing pistol? >>>Desert Eagle .50 cal<<< If you want to have more than 7/8 shots at a time, but some nice stopping power combined with general ease of use with some gnarly hand-load rounds... >>>H&K USP .40<<< How much weapon is too much weapon for a woman? Dunno, how much woman is she? 9mm or .38 come to mind. One shot in strategic body parts = dead...(sooner or later, and the more painful the better, IMO) Warped (and probably nonsensical to anyone but me) humor aside, I've talked with my HouseHold Six about getting a or some weapon(s) for home defense... Given my job description, it would kind of be weird if I wasn't interested in weaponry and such... A buddy let me test-fire his H&K (thus the suggestion above), and other than the M9 Beretta and 9mm Sigs we took down to Ft Benning a few months ago, not much else in the way of pistols for me. IMO, shotguns are great for CQB, but tend to get a bit messy. After all, you know that while Mama will be so thankful to you for blowing Joe Q Burglar's entrails all over the hallway, she's gonna bitch and moan about how the stench and stains just never quite come completely out... I know the adage about not bringing a knife to a gunfight, but... Psychologically, a majority of the population would likely prefer to be shot than sliced and diced like they were in one of those old Ginsu commercials. My wife already knows that when the kiddo gets older and starts bringing strays home, the first thing they're gonna learn about Papa Bear is just how sharp his collection is, and what he can and will do with them, given the right motivation... | ||

LMAO ...........First, I would wonder where the hell those rounds went if they didn't put down Joe Burgler ( neighbors would be wondering why they have "New Ventilation" in their home...... )And I'm a firm believer in "One Shot - One Kill"...........but a few "extras" don't hurt to "seal the deal" Besides, that's why you should have 6-8 extra magazines loaded and ready........
