| Ok, as the title says... Now, I have a few questions for yall pimps and hoes. Im looking at getting the A7N8X Delux board. I'm looking for some imput on RAM. I want to get some Corsair TwinX PC3200 but I can't decide on how much, 512 or 1024 Meg. I plan on running Win XP Pro and I hear it is memory hungry. Would like some imput on it from those of you with Win XP Pro. I would hate to get 1 gig of RAM if it is not going thave a huge impact on the system overall. Also, I have a buddy that works for Western Digital and he is working on getting me a 20% discount on their SATA drive from their internet store. Not sure if I'm going to bite on that one though, they are only 40 gig and cost $160 with the discount though. If I do get that drive I will probably buy two and run a stripe with them. My friend was telling me that they put thier SATA drive up against the Seagate drive in their lab and it was something like 17% faster than the Seagate. Anyhow, any constructive comments would be greatly appreciated. ![]() | ||

| I agree i with scape. Im going to be buying a gig of 3200. itll be in 2 sperate orders because i am going to have to spread out my upgrade over a few months. i have 512mb of generic ram right now and my system will bog down at points but after like a day or that is. a gig should be great if you can afford it. | ||

| In my opinion, 512 ram is more than enough for XP. I am using windows 2000 right now set with tons of applications running. I am only using 15% of my ram at max. I never got it more than that. Why get a gig? 512 will last your 2 or so years. In a year you will already be thinking about getting the next generation of parts. Possibly P5 or new amd chips will run on DDR 800 soon. The new Pentium 5 machines will be running a 800mhz bus and will be upgrading the ram to match the bus speed. (I think, not 100% sure) (200fsb*4) | ||

A year ago I purchased PC 2100 OCZ ram. At that time, PC2100 was the fastest speed. I paid, I do not remember it exactly, but near to 80-100 dollars. I sold this same ram for 25 on ebay. Yeah, but in a year of use, It lost from 60 to 70 dollars. Not worth it. Heck, I can buy 512mb PC 133 today for 26-29 dollars. About 2 - 3 years ago, they went for around 150 dollars.

| Unless youre doing some bigtime image or video editing, I think 1gig is a lil overkill. From what I've seen 512mb is usually plenty for gaming and typical use. You could do like Glad said and use the money elsewhere maybe, like on those sata drives. I'm going to order the same mobo in a week or so, and going thru ram decisions myself. I plan on getting 512mb, but with a around $100 to spend. Thinkin on getting 2 sticks of CORSAIR MEMORY XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series 256MB 32MX64 PC-2700C2PT maybe. I'd love to go a matched twin pack, but just can't swing it right now. | ||

You also sold it on ebay. Im talking about selling it to people who dont know any better. Most people on ebay are big time Bargain hunters. PeacE -BoB
