Default memory questions

Okay, I have a question. I am going to get a new rig this summer and I want to do a TON of research before I do something stupid and get anoter one like I have ....anyways, what I want it a K7N8X deluxe board, AthalonXP 2800 and now I am looking towards memory. I know that I will get a paired set so that I don't have compataility issues (I'd rather spend more and not deal with issues) but I don't know which brand or what speed. As a matter of fact that leads to my questions:
1) What the heck is ddr400 and 333, I mean I know what they are but all I see when I buy is PC3500 and PC3700 and so on, nothing about ddr400 or 333, so what ram has what FSB speed!?
2) What brand makes more reliable memory? I have historicaly used Kingston, but from the reviews I read I will probably be better off with corsair or Geil, am I correct?
Anways, thanks in advance, and any extra suggestions/comments that would eb useful are well appreciated.

Well the FSB Speed is coorsponding to the PC Number... eg PC2100 == DDR266 and so on...

As for the brands, I asked the same question a while ago here I had always been an OCZ fan, but under advise of pretty much everyone I am going with corsair. Check that post out..

Hope this clears it all up

First off, lets get to the basics and not confuse ourselves.

Rateings like PC2100 and PC3500 are theoretical bandwidth ratings and not frequency ratings.

But the frequency does figure into the bandwidth of the RAM so it's is part of the equation, just not the whole answer.

Simply put, the actual electronic signal frequency of DDR RAM is half of rated speed, ie.... DDR333 is running at 166mhz true.

DDR266 133mhz PC2100
DDR333 166mhz PC2700
DDR400 200mhz PC3200

Hope this helps out.

Red02 you can use two non matched sticks BUT, you will most likely not get the same results. If you do, it will be becuase you happened to be lucky enough to get two sticks that do match up...
