Normally I'm not a sensitive kind of guy. I don't get offended, I don't feel persecuted or discriminated against. Well, that is until today. Jesse Jackson and his latest crusade have opened my eyes to a whole new world. Now, I finally realize that I am part of a nearly silent minority that is slandered on a daily basis.

In a nutshell, Jesse is perturbed because the Mexican government has issued a new stamp depicting an old, yet still in circulation, comic character. It is admittedly an "old view" depiction of the African-American race, and he is certain that it is an attempt to insult people all over the world. After reading this, I realize that I'm a redneck/hillbilly type. I'm not this way by choice, but by birth. I'm happy with who I am, but I'm sick and tired of people like Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy making fun of me! I'll not stand for this blatant persecution and ridicule any longer! Join me, and let's ban these people from profiting at my expense!

QUIT WHINING. This applies to most any group who have things such as gay pride parades, green hair and 12 lip rings, pants that don't seem to go any higher than the middle of your a**, John Deere caps and as many missing teeth as missing button on that sleeveless flannel shirt. My wife used to get mad when I would open chuckle at kids walking through Seattle, wearing the "goth" clothing, piercings galore, etc etc. My reply was simply, "Honey, when they left the house this morning, they wanted attention. I'm just making it happen for them."

I'm straight, but I don't organize straight pride celebrations. I'm a redneck, but I don't spit my copenhagen on the carpet and demand that everyone else likes it. I'm a soldier, but I don't expect everyone to wave a flag and shake my hand when I roll into town.

And this is a POSTAGE STAMP FROM A FOREIGN NATION. It's not a symbol of America and its equal rights. It's not a blow against humanity and the advancement of civil rights. It's a STAMP. It's a little piece of sticky-backed paper with a Mexican CARTOON CHARACTER on it.

So when does the whining stop? When are we ever going to be happy just being ourselves and not be so dependent on unanymous acceptance? Will it ever end, or will their be more crusades? I'm shocked that PETA hasn't boycotted Calvin and Hobbes. That kid puts that tiger through more crap than can surely be necessary. Besides, just keeping a tiger in captivity like that is illegal! DOWN WITH CALVIN AND HOBBES!

All kidding aside, I think it's time for Jesse to retire or just find a job that doesn't make it into the limelight. He's dipping pretty deep in the ol' barrel for heroic causes, don't you think?

this brings to mind something that happened at my high school. we had asian, jewish, muslim, black, etc student unions and someone wanted to make a caucasian student union and they were turned down since it was for white people (even though anyone who wants to can join any of these clubs). we weren't allowed to have a christian or bible club either . ..

come to California and you'll get it a lot worse than in Missouri . ..

*Shrug* We'll still be "The White Man", even if we are actually the minority. Ancestral blame and all that. Number of black guys i know who've gotten their asses kicked because they were black. 0. Number of white guys i know who've gotten their asses kicked because they were white. Several, including myself on more than one ocasion. Even though i am technically a minority in my city i certanly dont bitch (beyond the specific events) about white persecution or anything...

Woah woah woah, I think you should edit your post and take out "liberal left." The liberals restrict? Just because Jesse Jackson is a liberal, doesn't mean all liberals think/feel the same way as he does. Many different ideals make up ones eventual decision of what political path they choose. Conservatives believe in smaller government & strong individualism. Letting the person be responsible and let his own inititive be his guiding light. Conservatives are more for big busness than the liberals who are more for government programs (expansion) to supposedly help the so called unfortunate and lower working class. Conservatives like to help big business (tax cuts etc.) because this usually causes business growth. That means jobs plus and people spending money, which helps the economy, remember the 90's.

Liberals are always for government expansion and more controls on people as they believe that people are just not responsible for their actions and feel a need to guide them like sheep. They tend to initiate more laws governing people and look at the wealthy as "evil" that need to be taxed more.

I'd like to add an addendum to those definitions (which are very correct by the way). Very obviously from those definitions, Republican != Conservatice, and Democrat != Liberal.

In the end I think it's not differences in ideals , policies or morals that have liberals and conservatives at each others throats all the time but rash and sweeping generalizations like these. Ive really got nothing against conservatives and they have every right to speak their mind as we liberals do but this isn't political debate it's just bellittling the ideals of the other side and it's childish and unproductive.

Liberals don't think people are "sheep" and we are not running some ultra left wing conspiracy to try to control you. We are just people like you trying to apply our morals and ideas like equality and social justice to the betterment of our society and it's fine if you disagree with some of them but don't slander us.
