Looks to me like the little company that can is hitting out right against Intel for Anti-trust and basically having a knifr in the back of
PC manufacturers and distributers that sell Intels products. To quote the press release:
 | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | | The 48-page complaint explains in detail how Intel has unlawfully maintained its monopoly in the x86 microprocessor market by engaging in worldwide coercion of customers from dealing with AMD. It identifies 38 companies that have been victims of coercion by Intel – including large scale computer-makers, small system-builders, wholesale distributors, and retailers, through seven types of illegality across three continents. | | | | | |
AMD is very pi$$ed off. So much so that they have launched a "Break Free" section to their website, issued a staggering 48-page complaint in the Delaware district, and issued the inevitable press release as previously stated. Japan's Fair Trade Commission is also involved in this little battle. According to PCWorld:
 | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | | Fair Trade Commission (JFTC), suspects Intel's Japanese unit broke local antitrust regulations by offering incentives to major PC makers to limit their usage of processors from Intel's rivals, it said Tuesday.
"Intel is engaging in actions to keep CPUs made by competing companies from being used," the JFTC said in a statement. "[These actions] are substantially limiting the CPU sales sector for domestic personal computer makers."
The JFTC said that Intel's market share grew from 76 percent to 89 percent between 2002 and 2003 as a result of the practices. | | | | | |
Gateway will also appear at somec stage as well. Selling AMD based systems has resulted in:
 | Quote: | | | | | | | | | | | "According to Gateway executives, their company has paid a high price for even its limited AMD dealings. They claim that Intel has "beaten them into 'guacamole'" in retaliation." | | | | | |
Intel has got away with this for years and now it seems AMD has decided to help one and all...the result will no doubt be interesting.
