One of my customers computers crashed and I had to fix it(had to swap out the mobo, rma the mobo) Since he had to finish a song for the next friday I let him use my computer. Now his motherboard is going to be back next week and he wants to know how much i'm going to charge him for the work, The work consists of swapping out the mobo and reinstalling windows and all of the regular programs plus the stuff he needs to do his job. Personally I was thinking of about 40-50 but my dad said I should charge about 60. Any insight on what I should charge for that? And I should point out that I have fix his computer on a regular basis since he downloads music off of russian sites. Every time I tell him to scan his computer with Ad-aware, spybot, and norton I come back to find that the last time it was done was when I did it. I install firefox but he continues to use IE, so I clean it quite often.

If someone has a genuine problem and its not a big deal to fix i dont charge them much, on the other hand, if their computer is continualy FUBAR because of their own fault and because they didn't listen to my instructions the last time, then i charge em more for the aggravation. For the most part, a quick adaware/spybot install and scan plus installing firefox, or something simple like installing a new burner, they just owe me a couple of beers. I however didn't turn down $40 for modding my buddys xbox...

Pretty much all of the problems that he has had were his fault. As many times as I told him and his son to run the spyware programs, they never did. A few of the times I had to do clean installs because half of his programs wouldn't work and none of the programs picked anything up. I tested everything before I gave the computer to him, I even show him that it works, then a few days later I get a call saying, "it doesn't work."

So i'm thinking a mobo swap, windows install, fan and filter installion/change over is worth about 60 dollars.

50-60 sounds about right.
It is still cheaper than calling the GEEK squad from bestbuy.
They charge more than that just to make the call and than about that much per hour there which is redicilious.
