| I know the majority of you are probably using AMD processors for one very important reason. They cost less. However which brand of processor do you think is better? Personally I think AMD is great for a most bang for your buck system and I really don't have a problem with them, however I think that if I were to buy a performance pc where money wasn't an issue I would go Intel. WhatÂ’s your preference, and why? | ||

| I Prefer Amd because you get a lot more bang for your buck and they perform a lot faster than Intels Cpus (in my opinion). I wouldn't mind giving an Intel chip a try for overclocking, but they cost too much. The main thing that intel has in its favour is lower temperatures.. | ||

| arj is right about the 400mhz bus but the chip isnt out yet. It will be on the 3200+ barton core. It comes out in April or May I believe. I prefer AMD chips myself I build P4's at work all the time. 2.0 and above. I can tell the difference between my old 1.4 Athlon. The P4's run slower and even with Rambus. Only PC800 but still. IMO anyway. | ||

| I am personally an Intel fan, I have collected almost ever Intel CPU possible (one of each kind). Now, the difference between the 2 CPU have to do with their architecture, the reason why an Intel socket 478 has 478 layers, one pin for every layer. It was made mostly for speed, notice that it took Intel a little over a 1/2 a year to introduce the pentium 4's after the PIII line up. It took Intel over 5 years to develop the first 586 processor. Intel Pentium 1 that is. AMD is mostly about performance, although the chip itself is fast, it was designed for more intense loads thus giving more results. However, the speed was never there, that is one of the reasons AMD had to lower their price of the CPU so that they can still compete with Intel. If you can remember, when AMD was first to put out their 1ghz mark, notice how much more AMD cost when Intel was behind at 933mhz. I prefer Intel, I have worked with them for many years, and although they cost more, you got what you paid for. That's just my opinion. BTW, the things I listed above might not be 100% correct as I am referring to them from my memory. | ||

| not sure about your memory myself...lol...most pricing reflects supply and demand and what is new at the moment...of course prices are gonna drop for competitive reasons...if its newer, bigger, and supposedly better (which we all know isnt always the case) its gonna carry a higher price...most benchmarks i've seen comparing the 2 companies in speed and or load doesnt warrant the comment u made about pricing really, nor does it really show one or the other as top dog in all cases...both are great in their own rite...myself i go amd for mainly the same reason as most, low cost-high performance...but i dont think there is a wrong choice really | ||

| Senor Cisner-Hoes | eh i like my p4. i'd go w/ it any day over any (thats rite ANY) AMD chip. when im runnin my p4 1.8 ghz w/ stock air cooling at 2.3 ghz, hey its cool with me. well i do know that AMDs do get more bang for ur buck, i still wouldnt go with em... i dont know why.. ive just always been partial to pentium from pre-pentium pros up til my itanium, xeon, and p4 its just been a good road so far! brandon | |

| AMD ALL THE WAY MAN! The P4 pipelines are really long, therefore the P4's are generally quite sloppy at processing. They do short fast bursts, whereas AMD does continuous quite-fast bursts. AMD is also cheaper BTW. I have only owned 1 intel processor and that was a pentium 2 233mhz, and all I can say was, IT WAS CRAP. My K-6 smoked the **** out of it. I have tried many computer with Pentium 3's and 4's and Celeron's and I hated them all, they are slow as hell, whereas my AMD AthlonXP 1800+ Throughbred-A never slows down, and I never have to wait a single second for it. You get more bang for your buck when using AMD, and generally an all-around better processor. Don't make the fatal flaw of choosing the wrong processor, pick AMD, you won't be disappointed. I am on my 5th AMD Processor, never had one break, never had one slow down on me except my K6 in my laptop, whcih has sever thermal damage from the fan failing without me knowing, but it still works! AMD should deserve better respect than they are recieving. The only concern that I have with AMD is once you go AMD there's no turning back. ROFL. | ||

HAHHAHAHAHA! The AMD k6-2 processors suck!!!! God there is not a worse processor! I had a few machines running at them, and man did they suck until i put in Pentium 1 chips. I got no clue where you said they are good.

Chiquita, are you some type of retard, this is a forum of discussion, not a place for calling people a halfwit. If you knew 1/2 of the things I know you halfwit, you could actually be normal. Otherwise, AMD k6 processors are crap in my opinion and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Learn that! And no, I will never believe that a k6-3 will not smoke a PIII with 512 L2. Prove it to me with 3dmark01.

| Sorry to tell you Galdiator but 3dmark wont prove anything. Thats a graphics program and everyone knows amd laptops have never had a decent graphics card. He could just mean all around proformance. He also never stated if it was a slot or socket p3. And he also never stated how fast his K-6 was. Also I dont believe they made a p3 500 with 512k of cache. i take that back. Even if Im wrong and they did the slot procs on ran the cache at half speed right? And also it wasnt on the chip which slows it down. Im not trying to be an a$$. Just stating what I remember about the p3's. | ||
