Default Computer gods... Why do they hate me?

Do you ever just have one problem after another and just wonder why you are the exception to the rule? Last night my folding rig crashed, turns out that was my fault, I thought Corsair XMS 3200 RAM was good for overclocking, turns out it is not with my NF7-S. I got some voltage info and RAM timings from Corsair, and it is happy at stock. Stock FSB???

Now that alone does not mean the computer gods are against you. My main rig now crashes about every 12 hours. I wake up, get a cup of coffee, turn on the monitor and... nothing blank screen, fans are turning, and the hard drive makes a clicking noise every second or so. Now this is the 3rd hard drive from Maxtor that has died on me in the last 6 months or so! If I shut the computer down and give the drive a light tap with a screwdriver, it is good for another 12 hours or so.

Now you are just thinking I am unlucky, but it gets better. I bought a Seagate drive to replace the failing Maxtor, and my brand new legit copy of XP will not load! I just get and endless repeat of the first section of the install.

Again, more problems, at work one computer would not boot, got that one fixed. Then the networked printer went crazy, finally got that one fixed!

Then I got a flat on my hooptie truck, took it back to work, got the hole plugged, and they told me I need a new tire soon because the hole was so big that a belt, or wire was broken when it was plugged.

My laptop has been very quiet lately, I think it is planning on trying to kill me in my sleep.

Well, thanks for letting me rant! The last few days have been rough. I hope the computer gods are smiling on you!

'And He came down from the Heavens and said, "I striketh upon thee with great force and expensive hard drive replacements. Sinners worship the NF7-S 2.0, and men of faith worship the DFI Lan Party Ultra NFII."

And so it was done, He swooped down from the Heavens and returned to claim what was his.

Bretheren, we are gathered here today to recognize a problem of SIN in our place of worship. Heathens who kneel at the altar of Maxtor!!

Sure, they steal your children away with the promise of lower prices and a 1-year warranty but they LIE. True power comes from the Western Digital 160gb EIDE, and true power is the highest of all power. Only sinners use Maxtors, can I get an amen?!!?!?! Power, from Western Digital!!

But you, lay down your sins, and take up my WDC 1600, for my capacity is great and my rotational speed is high. I am your hard drive, and you will pwn at CS Source.

Maybe your outlets aren't grounded, good thing to check if you live in a house without the three hole outlets. One of those has killed a few old PSU's here and sent electricity through the steel cases so when I would rest my hand on it, a small dose of electricity was sent through me. Then again, the computer gods just may hate you after all

I had that exact problem with a rig I built for a customer. The NF-7 M would not install XP Pro, it would get to like 23 minutes remaining, freeze, and then reboot back to 39 minutes. I had to slave it into my computer and install it that way. The customer wont notice a thing but for a good day or so I was sweating it.

I normally just remind the uncooperative system that even though they will one day rule the world and wipe out the human race, that day hasn't come yet and I'M still the one in control as I wave a large hammer over my head in an angry manner.

that rarely fixes the problem, but it makes me feel better.

Isn't that why we all got into computers in the first place...
My life would be carefree and always running at peak performance otherwise..we can't have that...
What would you do for anger and headaches...
unless you are a disgruntaled postal employee,
you HAVE to have a computer...

Default Computer stuff!

Well both computers are up and running, the Maxtor demon drive has been exorsized! I now have a shinny new Seagate 80G drive with a 5 year warranty!

I have been talking to the folks at Corsair, and there may be hope of a moderate o/c of the spare computer! It won't be as good as I want, but almost anything is better than stock.

And J-dogg, what the heck is wrong with Maxtor's 1 year warranty? In my experience, most of them fail within 6 months! So the warranty lasts longer than the drive...

Most problems work themselves out in time, thanks for letting me blow off a little steam. My friends eyes kinda glaze over when I try to tell them stuff!

My favorate quote from a friend I was telling about my hard drive crashing is this "That is why I bought a Dell, I don't have to worry about that kind of junk." Now this is the same guy whose Dell's hard drive crashed 8 months ago, and he spent $600 for a new hard drive, and an extra 512 of RAM at the local computer shop...

Have a great one!
