Former Vice President Al Gore is scheduled to receive the lifetime achievement award at this year's 9th Annual Webby Awards, organizers said Tuesday. Vint Cerf, widely credited as a founder of the Internet, is scheduled to present the award to Gore at the Internet honors' ceremony in New York June 6, the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences said. Cerf is also a member of the academy.

Other special achievement recipients at this year's show include Craig Newmark, the founder of craigslist, for Webby Person of the Year; The Kleptones, a British band pioneering new musical genres and methods of online distribution, for Webby Artist of the Year; and Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield, the founders of photo-sharing site Flickr, for Webby Breakout of the Year.

Flickr was bought earlier this year by Yahoo Inc..

This year's Webby Awards will be held at Gotham Hall and hosted by TV comedian Rob Corddry of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart." This year marks the first time the awards show, which honors innovation on the web, will be held outside of its San Francisco birthplace.

ok, let me get this straight. they are giving an award to a man who probably couldn't open an email attachment without the assistance of "clippy" and who was VP to a president, who by his own confession couldn't smoke a joint correctly.

if Darwin isn't flipping cartwheels in his grave, he should be.
