| Just moved back to the states from Italy and enjoying the wonderful world of broadband via cable and was wondering which FIREWALL fellow pimps use. Currently have a wired network with a Frye's supplied ComCast21 cable modem connected to a Linksys Cable/DSL router (8 port w/out built in firewall). Thanks in advance. | ||

| I am currently using a D-Link 614+ wired/wireless router. It kicks ass; 256bit encryption and all the security safeguards. Only cost me $80 after rebate, and each network card is only $50. Before that I was running a MultiTech Routefinder that also has excellent built in security. I'm not using it anymore if you are interested in it. Welcome back to the U.S. Where did they end up sending you? | ||

| For a software firewall, i too use ZoneAlarm, works good and free. Recommned it I have the D-link 714 wirless/wired router... basicly the same as BA's but with and added print server, very very very nice If you wanna upgrade to wireless....and get the firewall, the dlinks are pretty damn nice And Welcome Back to the States! | ||

| Zone Alarm, the paid version, (Popup blocker, ad filtering etc) and a Linksys Cable Gateway. ZA also blocks outgoing access attempts from spyware trojans etc, but no reason not to have good antivirus... Love 'em both... No problems yet. Incidentally, I've had no hits on the software firewall since I installed the Linksys, but I keep it JIC... | ||

| I think Pilot is looking for a hardware solution. I'm sure he's quite aware of the benefits of ZA and NIS. BTW, I will never put Norton Internet Security on another computer, ever. It binds itself to your NIC, so if you swap out your NIC, or if it goes bad, you entire system is trashed. I just went through 8 straight hours of damage control recently on a NIC I had to change, including 3 hours of registry editing, but to no avail. System had to be completely reloaded. That's the second time that happened to me, never again. This is a known problem that I didn't know about when I loaded it, twice. | ||

| Thanks for all the input. Decided to try Sygate on 1 machine and Zonealarm on another. I am headed for North Korea, if you believe the media, on the Carl Vinson (CVN-70) as a Shooter sometime next week. Unknown how long I will be gone or where exactly I will be goin. | ||
