| Some of you may be familiar with EVP - electronic voice phenomena. Michael Keaton [a fine actor] was in a movie called "White Noise" about it last year. People claim that the dead can be communicated with over tape recorders, radio, etc. Now I was a hard-core skeptic - until today. I walked upstairs and was about to power up my computer when I heard it ... a faint electronic voice from somewhere I couldn't identify. Just then Lil Squirrel started playing loudly with the puppy and I had to yell hush. Did I lose the moment? Was the voice gone? No .... still there. Remember now, my computer is off. But the voices are so close? From my monitor - no. Then I leaned closer to the speakers ... yes the speakers. I picked up the left one and put it to my ear. And heard Steve and Vickie from Star94 giving the traffic. I don't know exactly WHY my 2.1 powered Advents would pick up at exactly 94.1 Mhz. But being that I'm in line of site of a HUGE radio tower my guess is whatever comes off that tower is what I would pick up. The power lines, my house wiring, everything is resonanting to the frequency that tower puts out. Phone used to pick up AM, but the DSL filters and cordless phones seemed to have solved that issue. So I hope you enjoyed my skeptical little ghost story. EVP proponents will claim that THEIR voices answer questions, address people by name, and so. I can only say at my house, the dead are apparently Atlanta's most annoying morning talk show. -MF BTW, no FM card in this computer for those who wonder | ||

| i had the same issues with a modem years ago. was picking up the local police dispatchers.lucky for me my dad was an electronic engineer for northrop corp. ECM ,lasers and missile guidence systems were his forte ,anyway he said its possible for multiple frequency to emminate from a single source, spanning the rf band in steps higher or lower than the original transmission much like a multiplyer does, and its a common problem in electronics. 99% of noise comes in on the AC line. 1st is your pc properly grounded, dont just assume your house hold grounding is good use a cheap plug in tester. 2 try moving the pc or cableing ,even a little might work. 3 try an AC line filter. Also try another set of speakers i should have said this 1st | ||

| I'll tell you how easily wiring and such can act as an atena and even pick up a measure of elecrtical energy from radiated transmissions. I used to do demolitions work while I was a Combat Engineer long ago. At the demolition range there are signs posted warning soldiers to rurn off all their radios. You see, these days most demolitions uses electrical detonators. Non-electric detonators are still usefull, but electrical are more common. Well, if you have some explosive and an electrical blasting cap in it, with a long wire running to the detonator then that wire can act as an antena and even a radio can put out enough energy to set off the cap and blow the explosives.
