so today on our 2nd day of training in the National guard, our Sgt major comes in and makes a annoucement.....

well to make things short, some time next year i will be playing in the sand box. yay.
im not really worked up over it. my wife is POed tho, but oh well.

they didnt give us any set day yet other than anywhere between March 2006 and Dec 2006.
so if you guys hear of a Infantry dividion out of the Mineeaspolis,WI, area getitng deployed enxt yet around this time, that will be me.. pimping in Iraq.

i think i may have to suck it up and buy a high end laptop so i can atleast feel somewhat conencted tot the world

Congratulations. At work, we are responsible for tracking the Western Missouri, Eastern Kansas, Iowa, and Minnesota deployments. It is unbelievable how many folks are deployed. I can't say I envy you since I did years away from home throughout my career, but I can tell you that you will embark upon something that will change your outlook forever. Don't be worried, but be careful.

ya this isnt my first deployement. i pretty much have a good idea whats to come.

i cant say im all that excitied about it. my wife was crying for a few hours tonight before she calmed down and we were able to go out to eat.

the thing that is annoing is the fact we have only been back from our Kosovo deplyement for only 6 months now, and werent scheduled to deploy again till 2008 since we will be doing a re-org. so this was just a surprise in timing, not that we are going.

oh well, guess i will have a pair of BDUs with a red bull combat patch to add to my other one

good luck dood, thats one thing i dont like about the NG, it seems they are shipped out all the time due to our lack of troops

well one thing to think about while your there is how much money you will be making..... thats all i would think about besides servin my country

lol, i just re-enlisted and took the 15,000 lump payment option. its too bad tho, i should have only signed a 1 year contract and re-upped over there so its all tax free.

even tho i wont be making as much as if i was home, in the end with thigns being tax free, seperation pay, BAH, and combat pay, it will be pretty close. im just hoping my job will throw in the extra cash difference.

i finally told all my family. with the exception of my wife, they all took it ok. my wife it took a few hours for things to settle down. she knew it was coming, she just didnt expect it so soon, since we just got back in Sept - 04.

im personally looking forward to it. i just need to find out if the body armor is the same basic kevlar crap we got over in Kosovo, and if they are issuing out additional body armor for armors and legs. if not, then i need to find some. i found some kevlar plates that will stop a 7.62 round, but they cost $900. havent found anything yet on armor for arms or legs ( thighs & groin).

Also, i need to look into a decent laptop to take with me over there. going to need to feed my computer addiction some how!
