| Ok, watchin the weekly SG1 mini-thon and something just occured to me. How come on almost all the planets they visit, the stargate is out in the middle of a clearing or in a field somewhere? Wouldnt it make sense (for the more advanced people they encounter anyway) to build around it or move it to a facility for utilizing it, like the SGC? | ||

| also, why is it that all the people on the other planets speak english? they don't have universal translators like on star trek. so what gives? edit: to answer your question, one of the reasons why is because SGCs gate is secret from the rest of the planet while all the other gates were not. | because most of the planets that they go to have no idea what it is. alot of the civilizations fear it. as thats the device the "gods" use. there are only a couple episodes in which it was. one where the society was much like earth but the go'ould didnt go there for some reason. so they build a museam around it. sorry i'm a HUGE stargate fan. EDIT: in reply to the language thing. because all of the people including us are decendents of the ancients. they are the ones after the wraith sent people all over the universe to help the different cultures. | ||

the gates were not built by go'oulds but rather the anchients. but then again the go'oulds could have moved the gates. if the gates were not moved, then we don't know y they were put where they were by the ancients.
yeah but people on Earth speak all kinds of languages so that doesn't really answer the question. damn i'm a nerd.

| They completly copped out on the language thing. There have been a few worlds where they didn't speak english, but yeah, they've never offered an explanation. Also, its not like the gates are immovable. The one in the SGC was the one burried in egypt, and the one in russia is the one from antarctica. | ||

| Apex Advanced Techie | im a huge sg-1 fan but sg atlantis sucks. They all speak english. Well acording to danial many of them dont derive from culture that speak english. What about the ones derived from aztecs, oines derived from anglo-saxon/celts (way to primative of english, would have evolved extremly differntly) I just take it as it comes and view it not scientificly but with entertainment. If you view scifi scientifly and ask why its no longer entertaining. | |

Because they don't have to spend as much on a set that way.
