| C'mon guys...we know you've got it, so POST IT!! I'm researching right now for my first full-blown HT setup, so I don't have anything to post. I'm currently looking at the Rotel RSX-1067 receiver, but I'm also looking at the B&K 507 unit. I looked at the Outlaw 905/7100 pre/pro/amp set, but the outlaw pre/pro doesn't convert composite/s-video to component like the Rotel and B&K units do. That's a major factor since my wife and kid's gotta operate this thing daily...I don't want them having to mess with it too much. Decisions, decisions...for speakers, I'm looking at PSB's, since my buddy's got a full-blown PSB setup and it kicks major bootay. I've already got a Toshiba 50" rear-projection, non-HD, but it's gonna have to do for now. If you're knowledgable about HT stuff, please, by all means hit me with recommendations. For now, though, let's see whatcha got! Last edited by Joose; 24-January-05 at 03:03 PM.. | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic | I can say that the room it will live in is a major factor. Furniture, wall coverings, fixtures, etc. is a big part of it. Carpet spikes are a plus. Resolve any rattles you'll get (might involve some drywall work to get to). I don't have gear (except for my frankenstein pc speakers, and my stereo (turntable, 25 year old speakers, etc.) | |

| The room is about 11x17, has Kempas hardwood floors and a gas fireplace. The house is only 2 years old, so hopefully rattling will be at a minimum...I'm not scared to fix that crap myself though...I'm no stranger to renovations. In fact, I installed the hardwood myself. [edit] oh yeah...leather sofa and leather love seat. No rug. two large windows flanking the gas fireplace. I'm thinking I *might* move the HT setup when I finish my basement, but I'm not sure....I'd like to keep it on the main floor, as we use the TV so much... | Etiquette & English Gentleman | My setup is a pretty mixed bag that will probably horrify most true audiophiles: * a Technics class A amp (which was start of the art 13 years ago, takes a week to warm up properly, gets hot enough to make toast on unless you run it near flat out, and destroys anything electronic you put on top of it thanks to the transformer that takes up half of the space in the double height case {the other half is a heatsink}), * a pair of 1978 Leak 2060 speakers - which I was planning to replace, until I realised that getting some new ones that sound as good was going to cost at least £500, * a set of Acoustic Solutions floorstanders for when I don't want quite so much power, .... the brand names of the speaker cables & interconnects escape me for the moment (but were £6 a meter & £30 respectively), * a Pioneer turntable & Sony casette deck from the same era as the Leaks, & * a middle of the range, mid 90's Marantz CD player. My only concession to HT is having a £30 DVD player plumbed into the amp - with 2.0 that good no-one is going to be able to persuade me of the need to upgrade to 5.1 (or beyond) any time soon ... unless I get a huge house & have money to burn ![]() | |

| Ok here is the list of the gear up and running Phillips dvd player (roomates) rca vcr (for watching the old flicks i have not the dvds of yet) kenwood vr-307 pioneer sg9500 eq thats for the maggies denon pda-1500 duel mono block amp for the maggies also speakers are boston hd-8 (front) back Magneplanar mg-1 sub mb quart dcm -1000 in the closet another dvd player phillips ,pioneer lazer disk player, yahama rx-360 reciever, and a nad tape deck. Turntable bit the dust on the last move along with the bottom of the speaker stands need to get some granit to replace it with....and no bashin george ,hes my idol. PJ sounds like you are on your way to a really nice system if it was me i would look for the Marantz mono blocks that are thx certified they are great and not to high dolla, speakers are personal choice if i was to get back into this i would go with M&K http://www.mksound.com/ Pricey but the imaging is great on theim and usually small. Go with a preamp if possible that way you can allways add to if needed Adcom was really good for the price,or i am and allways will be a fan of Yahama. I might think of some other things later but thats about it for now. Woot !!! finally got a title ![]() | ||

| Back in the day when I still believed in Fony, I shelled out about $800 for their then top-of-the-line system...the DAV-C900. I've never had a problem with it at all and it was really easy to set up. The remote with it's tiny buttons is a pain in the a** and I still haven't been able to preset any of the radio stations, but other than that, I'm o.k. with it. ![]() Here is a LINK to Amazon.com describing the system setup. Once this system wears out, I may build my own HTPC. Rob | ||

| You posted while i was typin PJ....you need a rug in that main room to take away standing waves and some heavy curtains around the windows. What uber said about speaker spike ,and you about the rattling it isnt lets say the structure you sometimes have to worry about but the equipment as well thats where the spikes come into play. Any speaker stands wortth their weight will have them,if not you can also add them to a pair later. | ||

Thanks for the advice...I'm still researching, and will be for a while I think...I have Marantz on my list of vendors to research, but didn't have M&K. I had a quick gander at their site; the wife likes the idea of in-wall speakers, but I'm not so sure I like that idea especially if we ever decide to move... I gotta hear them before I lay down any loot though, so that decision is still up in the air. I'm hoping I can go the pre/pro route because of the flexibility, but I'm not sure if I'll have the loot. I really want to do it right the first time though, so I don't have to upgrade again for a looong time. I want the stuff to last 20 years. Which reminds me...another feature of the Rotel and B&K is that they are software upgradeable too. I'm loving the Audiogon site though...seems like there are a LOT of deals to be had there! Nice gear Flounder...I like your amp ![]() [edit] I've got the wife making some nice, heavy curtains in there with blackout lining on them (the room gets a lot of sun in the late afternoon and evening, especially in the summer) and we've been looking for an area rug to go in that room, but haven't decided yet...I'm still at least a month away from purchasing, so I've got some time...the wife's gonna love it when I tell her we should put a rug in that room it'll look like I actually CARE about the decorating!!!! (If you're reading this, sweetie, I'm just kidding )Last edited by Joose; 24-January-05 at 04:15 PM.. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Well, I'm running an early 70's Kenwood KA-9100 integrated amp. I have a Denon reciever. My panasonic turntable. A technics 5 disk changer. All that hooked up with some really nice Advent speakers. On the TV side of the system I have a Technics SA-GX530 pro-logic reciever/amp. A sony Hi-FI 4 head vcr. Sony DVP-s550d dvd player. Playing through some reasonable mid quality technics speakers with advent center channel and rear surounds. | ||

| I am currently a very sad audiophile (due to budget constraints) but when I win the lottery.......... ![]() M & K (Miller & Kriesel) make some very good speakers if you can afford them, ditto with Cello amps. I'll post more here when I have a bit more time to work with but if you want to check out some premium home theaters (just for ogling, as noone I know on PR can afford this stuff) then hit this link: http://www.tktheaters.com/ Here is another good site to use for HT research (site is in redesign phase but there are some good links at the bottom of the page as well) http://www.connectedguide.com/ | ||

| I have some new gear and wanted to share. Pioneer SA-1280 Amplifier, TX-1080Z AM/FM tuner, CT-W208R dual cassette deck (I have 1 cassette ) and a PD-4050. The amplifier was one of the last produced in Japan. I use bookshelf speakers made by RCA that came with the RCA-1285. My line out from my PC goes to my subwoofer, then to my amplifier.![]() | ||

| OOOOOOOOO I forgot about this thread! I got some new gear myself! I picked up a Pioneer VSX-1014TX-K THX-Select receiver (770w) a pair of PSB speakers for my front mains, and an Infinity Primus center channel speaker. I've got the receiver installed, but I'm still waiting for the speakers to arrive ![]() ![]() I'll post pics of my new gear after I get back from Santo Domingo... [edit] still looking for a subwoofer; got my heart set on a velodyne...hopefully there'll be a good one on Audiogon in a month or so.... [edit2] forgot to mention I'm using vintage Monitor Audio Radius II speakers right now until I get my PSB's...the Monitor Audio's will take up residence in the basement by the pool table can't let good gear go to waste, even if it is older than Moses.Last edited by Joose; 04-March-05 at 04:09 PM.. | ||
