| Sam-Hoe-rai N-Hoe-mad | That cable probably cost 20 bucks to manufacture... the knobs, 2 dollars... Ahhhhh, capitolism... Anyway... I love clean audio, but I don't think I'd spent 500 bucks on a pair of knobs... I really just don't think I'd hear the difference... too much heavy metal has given me dain bramage.

| Apex's Squirrel Revolutionary | i would rather carve my own know out of feces than pay for that much for a knob. i took shop class and even i know how they manufacture those. the baseballbat i made is proof that i passed shop class.

| The Mack Daddy | Hey skippy before you go calling folks stupid for shelling out the cash for things like that you better do your research first. I will agree the knobs are a little outrageous but the theory behind those is to take away the metal that causes standing waves. Cables over a grand has been a controversy for many years but did you see the materials it made out of? Next thing you know you will be posting about how '" stupid " audiophiles are for spending 2 grand on a cartidge. Tell you what I will personally put up my upper "midfi" system to your over compressed mp3 player and non imaged headphones any day of the week, and you can tell me wich sounds better. Bottom line you get what you pay for. Bet you sure dont buy those noname ultra special harddrives and cc do deck your rig out do you.....ya thought you didnt..

| Apex Elite Expert Tech | I would never spend a grand on one cable but I can honestly say I easily have $700 into the cables in my car. If you want to see an amplifier that needs stuff like that, check this thing out. http://www.sunfire.com/400SevenFrontPR.htm Seven channel amp, 400 watts rms per channel into each channel at 8 ohms. It can handle a 2 ohm load for limited time frames and will push 1600 watts PER channel. Thats 11,200 watts for a home stereo. I frigin want one.

| Apex Tech Fanatic | if im gunna buy a quality cable, il buy fiber. all my audio/theater equitment has the jacks, i just dont want to shell out $3+ a foot, and at that price, its just raw cable, i still need ends, and a crimper, and the ability to crimp it (workin on it)

| Editor/Reviewer/LED Guru | I see the point of the thread to put a eye on rediculously high priced audio equipment... but... I do take insult to your title of "Audiophiles are the Stupidest People on Earth" as your putting all audiophiles in this... I am a audiophile..... Just needed to state that...... |

| Apex Master Tech | I once remeber seeing a $30 telephone cable(not sure of technical term) that had gold plating and other various "improvements" which was supposed to "dubble" 56k speeds.

| Apex Elite Tech | man some people just dont get it, and while i agree that wooden knobs is probably overdoing it for 500$, perfect sound is a very difficult and expensive thing to obtain. honestly, the one thing i want more to get when i get older and get a job (going to law school so hopefully ill have the money for this eventually) is a cat mbx home theater... prices range from $300,000 to 8 million each. but DAMN they sound good. better than a concert. i would rather listen to a good dvd recording of a concert on a high end cat mbx theater with a big screen than go to the concert cause it will sound a lot better in the theater. i dunno man most people dont get it, kinda like blowing 6000$ on a computer or sub zero processor cooling, and i dont expect them to. but for me, sound is like another hobby, music is relaxing and i couldnt live without it, so i want it to be as good as possible, and it aint cheap. just my .02

| Apex Tech God | Apologies to anyone i may have offended. I apreciate high end audio, my dad has a very nice system at home, and i can certanly hear the difference, but he uses stock knobs and radioshack cables. But i think i give those here who consider themselves audiophiles a bit more credit than spending $500 on a beechwood and brass knob thats being sold for probably being sold for 2500% profit... And oxygen free cables? Thats market speak for "its not corroded"...

| Apex Elite Tech | cables do make a difference tho, i mean theres probably little to justify a 1200 dollar cable, but then again going back to the cat mbx theater, speakers that cost upwards of 50,000$ each (the big cat mbx towers are 85 grand a piece) are so clear that even the tiniest imperfections stand out, and if ur spending 85,000 on a speaker whats 1200 for a cable to it. i probably wouldnt spend that much on cabling cause ur right that does sound like a marketing gimmick, but cable quality is vital in keeping out noise and other things like that. automotive environments are even worse, cause theres a ton of outside interference that cables need to keep out. the rca's in my car were 75 each, and i had 20$ ones before i put those in and i really can tell a difference, theres less hiss in my speakers and less overall ground noise coming through (these are high quality 500$ a pair car speakers, again good enough that even subtle noise comes out and u can hear it)

![]() | me for one am a beginner audiophile.a guy i work with got me into it this past summer. so far ive converted all my home speakers over to B&W 's awsome sounding. next i swapped out my radioshack cables for kemper cables some of the best out there. next thing for me is my projection and screen damn things are expensive though. anyway not all audiophiles are dumb man takes a good ear and sense to hear and tell the difference between an radio shack cable and some made of high quality.
