Default what POP3 mail software do you use?

After seeing this:

I have decided to switch to a more secure POP3 mail software, other than oulook 2003...

i currently let my fiance use my computer, but don't really want her checking my email; nothing to hide, it's just my last bit of selfishness that i'd like to keep..So, my question to you all, is what software do you use that has options for better security??
i.e.: to use a password to protect unauthorized users from opening the software..

Mozilla thunderbird works good. But if you are using hotmail and want to use it through a email client I don't think thats possible. I have yet to get any client other than outlook to work with hotmail.

Default pop mail

pop.mail.yahoo.com :-)

I must admit I still us MS Outlook for a client, but Yahoo mail rocks and is a nice stable address. I pay the extra to pull mail from Yahoo when I want. Forward all your other addresses to Yahoo and you will be all set.

You can read Yahoo mail from anywhere that supports a browser :-).

I know there is password protection for parts of it, (Thunderbird) but not yet sure for startup, I'll get back to you on that.

I'm pretty comfortable using Outlook Express with the mail folder on an external drive. That way, I can just unplug the drive from my rig every time I go on a business trip and hook it into my laptop and I've still got my folders.

If you walk away from your desk, simply turn off the external drive. If she's computer savey, get a USB flash drive to use for your mail folders and slip it into your pocket.

well, considering i run my own web/mail server w/ 100GB of available storage space on it and can make my own email addresses/aliases at any time, ill stick with that and also, i don't have to worry about someone else (google) reading my email; just my fiance

why dont you just setup a webmail program then? you could also then check it remotely.

i already have that, but i have numerous addresses that i have outlook check (i.e.: webmaster, postmaster, sales, yada yada yada) that have their own accounts, that would take a lot of time to check via the web interface..

Must be nice to have your own mail server, make a seperate adress for everything, amazon@yourmailserv.com, or pimpig@yourmailserv.com, and then if you get spam to any adress you can raise hell since you know exactly who sold your email addy (not that amazon or PR would, but you get the idea).

it is great i actually creat aliases for most of my address so that when i do sign up for something using that alias, and some spam gets thru my filters, i just delete the associated alias

Anyone ever received an email with no subject or sender, or even information on who it was addressed to?

I just got two today and had more in the past. I'm assuming theyre virii or something. The only originating info I have is a proxy in brazil. Theyre only 1kb but I guess thats enough to contain a virus I suppose.

I get them, no subject, sent from, or anything. Completely empty. Mine are under 1kb in the 962 bytes range.

That is too small to be a virus considering that all the header info and whatnot adds to the count. That's just 962 letters or symbols, far too little for anything.
