It's l337 to skip teh numb3|2z...

I already have an over-kill Audigy 2 ZS... hooked to my wussy Altec Lansing 251s anyway... (5.1, sorta...)

The system specs don't seem to be much different from the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum... any major improvements anyone else can see?

I didn't see much of a difference, but do you think they will be making sound cards that use PCI Express?

yah i kinda noticed that trend with most hardware, and some software too, Example there is no winamp 3 and for hardware they seemed to have skipped the geforce 3 etc etc

i'm guessing that its an upgrade because of all the additional connections. you get an external hub for input output. also in the stats it says the audigy 2 zs so i guess the sound card is still the same. though in the package contents it does call it a audigy 4 pro pci card. type maybe?

Looks like they skipped the engineering part along with "Audigy 3"
It's the same card, plus an Extigy. Aimed at the sucker market no doubt.

Sounds like a tactic to get existing Audigy owners to upgrade. Which isn't a bad strategy, since those'll be most of the people who'd be interested in a $278 sound card.

Sure, maybe it'll appeal to audio pro's and the most dedicated audiophiles (the latter of whom I regard with suspicion, much like self-proclaimed wine connoiseurs). But when onboard sound is as good as it is, most of us won't be tempted. At least when you upgrade from onboard video to a $278 vid card, even your grandma can tell the difference.

There was a winamp 3 and some people liked 2 more then 3 so they combined them 2+3=5 thus winamp 5

Im guessing it has something to do with it supporting EAX 4.0?

And speaking of model number consitency anybody remember Athlon 4? About 2 years ago AMD launcehd the athlon 4 line which they named to compete with the Pentium 4 even though it would have rightly been athlon 3. I

I have the same speaker set, for some reason I need to switch the orange and black to have 5.1. Also it seems like they arnt 'real" 5.1. Allthough most of the sound come out of one speaker. Alot still comes out of the other ones. I can barely can tell wich way people are comming. So i just use them in 2/4 channel mode. They are sorta crappy that way. With my EQ they have "ok" sound. Nothing compared to my other 2.1 setup. But oh well.

Dude!!! GeForce 3's are the reason 3DFX (makers of Voodoo) went out business!! They took one look at the GeForce 3 and said "Well, damn... we give up". Nothing could touch a GeForce 3 until the Radeon 8500.
