Screen Saver To Fight Spam

Sorry if this is a Repost. Basically Lycos have started a campaign to fight Spam sites and it aimes to do this by having as many people al possible install and run this screen saver which send request to spam servers and if enough people do it the spam sites get overloaded and DIE

If your worried about band width on a network and lagging out other PCs it wont, it sais it will only generate 3.4MB of bandwidth per 24 hours.

Their map is europe only, which lends creedence to my first thought. Is this entirley legal? Yeah spammers are bad, but so is a DDOS attack, which is what this seems to be. Plus correctly identifying spam servers is hard with proxies and illegal spoofing and such. Sounds like a good way to get sued for hosing some legitimate server. Even though three lefts do, two wrongs dont make a right.

That's certainly not something I'd want to stick my breadstick in.

If Lycos doesn't catch hell for this, the spammers who do it legally will make sure they do.

Plus, I hate screensavers, bloody waste of resources when you can do something like F@H.

reminds my of the good old days of flood net protesting gov't. History baby. except back then we had a legit cause. I dont know why every1 complains about spam, i just dont get it. Trick is 2 email addys'. One you use for signing up for stuff, the other is your legit.

Thats fake. The spammers hacked them back. Linky. Still seems a little shady to me.

Kind of an interesting idea, but I think the best way to fight spammers is education. There's a lot of clueless computer users out there who easily fall victim to the spammers nasty tricks.
