what the heck is Karma rating?

is it just another measure of post-count? every time i post it goes up. how does it work?

Add/Deduct Points(Each submit will add/deduct 5 points from user. Penalty can not exceed 50 points in 24 hours.)
This is the only info I have, right now, it is up to 5 points per post, but, your average jack@$$ can have points taken from them!!! Heh! So you all best tow the line!

Also, won't that make people nervous to respond if they think they'll lose karma points?

I'm still with BZA... WTF are karma points good for? Do I win a kewpi doll if they're high? Will I get a fortune cookie? Will I be fated to win the lotto?!?

Honestly, I don't give a crap about Karma ratings. If someone pisses me off I ain't going to bite my lip because I'm worried about "Karma". I'm more worried about this site getting too vanilla. The edge is what brought people here, and kept them.

These Karma ratings still dont make sense to me... They seem random. But not like is matters anyway, right? We are here cuz we are techies, not cuz we want some computer to boost our ego.

I think i saw it go up 3 before for a post, but i haven't noticed afetr an edit

The system awards points for starting a thread, replying to a thread, starting a popular thread...

You can also give or take away points if the post was pure trash. I think the system is fully in place. The admins can award extra karma points for exceptional posts.

This gives you something else to shoot for besides just postcounts... PLUS you can redeem your points for merchandise once you accumulate enough. Still working on the amounts for rewards.
