| Hey, all. I just wanted to tell you that Santa's been real good to me this year. I got everything I needed to build my own gaming rig. Here are the components: -Chieftec silver server chassis w/ Turbolink 420W P.S.U. -AMD Athlon XP 2100+ w/ stock cooling -Soyo KT333 Dragon Lite -Corsair 512MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM -MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP8X -Western Digital 100GB w/ 8MB cache -U.S. Robotics Performance Pro modem -Windows XP I even got a game to go along with my hardware: UT2003! Okay, now I know you're all thinking "Whoop-Dee-Doo" and all that. I should say that this is my FIRST gaming rig, built it all by myself, and I'm really proud of what I done. After all, weren't you proud when you built you're first true gaming rig? Well anyway, I know it's kind of late to be talking about Christmas, but as you can see, I had my Christmas present to keep me occupied! Does anyone have any comments and/or opinions about my rig? Did I make good choices? Bad choices? Well, Peace out, everbody. | ||

| Very nice, you made good choices. I kinda got the same for my Christmas Present, but just a bit lower on the scale. I got this for christmas: MSI KT3 Ultra2 RAID Motherboard with Onboard 5.1 Sound + USB 2.0 AMD Athlon XP1800+ T-Bred A with a Volcano 9 HSF 512MB Kingston PC2700 (DDR333) /w ThermalTake Copper Ram-Sinks All my specs are below this post, I'm too lazy to write whatelse I have. What do you guys think of my system? I only get 5500-6000 3DMarks for some reason, probably my videocard, but can anyone tell me why I get such low scores? Thanks. | ||

| The stock fan seems to be doing okay. I really have no plans on overclocking my cpu, though. Just as long as I don't overclock, my cpu will do just fine with stock cooling. I'll probably overclock my videocard, seeming as how there is an overclocking utility included. I wanted to get PC2700 ram, but unfortunely I didn't specify how fast I wanted my ram, so I ended up getting PC2100 instead. Oh well, my rig is still good enough to play UT2003 without any hiccups, and that's all that matters to me. I think I'll download 3dMark 2001, just for kicks, and see what I get. | ||

chiquita, I'd say you're right, it's probably the card. Check out this chart at Tom's Hardware; even on a 3GHz machine, the Radeon 7500 scores 6452 (for comparison, a Ti4200 on the same system is around 12000). On the bright side, at least it's only the one component holding you back; I'm gradually upgrading about half the machine on my gaming system to bump up the performance (6892 in 3D Mark). Chris, congratulations! Great feeling building your own machine, huh? So great that even when it's done, it's not done -- so we gotta mod to get another fix. ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||
