I am currently running xp pro on a 40 gig hd and am adding another 20 gig that i just want for the OS leaving all the data on the 40. Some concerns i have is with the windows default folders, my music, program files, and so on. Will I have to redirect them some how. Basically what should I do all around? Please Help!

Im prolly wrong but u may just be able to switch jumper settings on the HD's.
I had somthing similar happen , I had a 30 gig with os and buncha stuff on files then I added a 120 gig made it my master , installed a os(XP) on it and have been living happily ever after. Everything is seen in my Start menu too.

Did you uninstall the original OS from your 30 and if so how? I am scared to thinking it may mess with my user settings or my programs.

Daimon...do you want to do a fresh Win XP install or use your current install?

Fresh Install: On the same IDE...hook your 20gig up as Master and your 40gig up as slave. You will need to change the jumper on the 40gig hard drive from Master to Slave. Then Install a fresh install.

Current Install: Switch hard drives and jumpers as stated above. Then use a program to Copy your OS from your 40gig to your 20gig. As long as you do not have more data than what will fit on your 20gig, then this will work. Once you test, then you can format the 40gig (wipe it out) then you can move the data you want to keep to the 40gig.

This would be the fastest way, thus keeping all your installed programs and settings.

Alright, I have a program to do that and I just realized I could then simply redirect "My Music" and others to where I want to store them on the 40gig. Thanx again for the help.

prolly dont need this no mo but, I was to lazy to uninstall it at the time and it worked fins so I just left it, with windows u can also format a drive thru right cliking the drive in My Comp.

Daimon, until you have 50 posts, then you can submit a custom avitar of your choice. Why not go thru the list of thousands of Avitars and find another one...go towards the end...most are too lazy to go that far to pick an avitar.
