Default The "Rock to this" Thread

The Rock to This Thread

I know that most of us love music, even if it's a different type than most enjoy. Personally, I try and tackle it all, and I love hearing anything new. I also love sharing my music. So I had an idea...

Why not make a thread sharing some of our favorite songs. The rules? Songs must be links to official websites. This is quite a twist, I know but it's the only way I could think of without anything illegal, and listing a song you like just wouldn't give you that immediate satisfaction. Because of this I'm not expecting the thread to explode like Mist's "New Game :p" but I'd love to see periodic updates from everyone with bands that they like.

And the other rule: If there's profanity, give us a warning

Btw, MP3's can usually be found on the band's website, the label's, or Amazon sometimes. Don't be shy, and don't be close-minded. If you love it, say it. If you hate it, suggest your own.

Try and make the links to the songs as direct as you can.

-------------------------------------------

So here's my kick-off song. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists play a type of rock that makes me think "Why don't more people play this?" It's beautiful music, very upbeat, and often talking about people singing songs to each other, which is kind of cool. If you like this, I'd recommend buying either Tyranny of a Distance or Hearts of Oak. Tyranny's got 5 AMAZING tracks at the beginning but peters out. Hearts of Oak is rocking all the way through. He's great to listen to on a sunny day, and pretty enjoyable for all crowds. My dad loves him as do all my friends that have heard him.

So without further ado, here's Me and Mia off their upcoming album

Bosco & Jorge
I have not been able to find legal mp3s from them or an official site, but they are an excellent post-modern folk/avant garde jazz combo

Having some trouble with their MP3's, but it might be my connection. Definately want to check it out though. They're one of those bands I've heard of but haven't heard.

EDIT: If anybody else is having trouble, here's the link from the label http://www.sanctuaryrecords.com/soun...py%20With.mpga

DOUBLE EDIT: some clips of Bosco and Jorge. Couldn't find any full songs unfortunately.

These have just been some of my latest findings. Like Sexy Pants, I have a love for ALL types of music and my current favorites shift from time to time. Of course, everyone should know by now that my all time favs will never change. Floyd and Zep all the way!

If I have anything to do with it, it'll be a while till this thread dies.

The Ancient Greeks are probably the softest music I've banged my head to. Once you get past the guy's voice, it's incredible (and some people even like his voice).

Make sure to check out Lay Up on the third link

Primus!!!!!!

If you want to sample their music, look in the "bootleg" section of their website. Tommy the Cat is probably my favorite song of theirs.

When Blaze Bayley came to replace the singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce D!ckinson (along with Adrian Smith) left Iron Maiden to start their own group, named after the vocalist..Bruce D!ckinson. (**** gets censored, so I type D!ck)

I think Bruce D!ckinson is the greatest vocalist I ever heard. They are an awesome group and I recommend you guys check them out.
Some of my personal favorites are: The Tower, Tears of the Dragon, Chemical Wedding, The Road to Hell..

Been listening to FM Static lately (I like "Three Days Later"). Not as heavy as stuff I used to listen too; kinda sounds like Sum 41 to me.

Thanks guys!

Primus is always awesome. I've been eyeing one of their CDs in my favorite record shop for a little while now.

ERAD, you said Iron Maiden, I'm there.

Funky, I'm listening to those songs on their ecard. I'll admite I kind of stopped listening to pop punk when they all started playing the same thing, but these guys have some very catchy vocal melodies.

All winners!

For Iron Maiden albums I would recommend Powerslave (man, what an awesome concert that was!), Number of the Beast, and Piece of Mind. Of course, you can get most of the good songs off of these by buying the Live After Death album. I can't say much about these guys after the Live After Death album though as I kinda stopped listening to them when my music tastes changed in high school.

I'll try and get some Bosco & Jorge on when PimpRadio is in full swing.... haven't heard much lately, need to check into that. As well as some King Crimson.

I recently bought Rock in Rio. That version of "Number of the Beast" is my favorite metal song hands-down, there will never be another one greater, the purchase was worth it for that alone. The actual album Number of the Beast is the only other album of theirs I own. A little spotty, but it's got some hits.

I basically bought it back in HS for Run to the Hills, Bruce did some crazy screaming in that song if I remember correctly.

Nope, still not dead.

Deerhoof is really wierd kind of noise-rock. Definately try the high-quality versions and crank that sucker up.
My favorites are Dummy Discards a Heart and Pickup Bear but many of them are quality (My Pal Foot Foot is a terrible cover of a terrible terrible song, don't try that one)

The Rugburns

Only site I could find with sound clips is Real Audio and made from bootlegs but you can get the gist of their music. I really like You're Pulling My Leg

Edit: Just found another

http://www.poltz.com/

under the Zounds The Sounds section some Rugburns mp3s can be found.
