| Apex Tech Fanatic | Whether or not anyone is opposed to it, it will happen. I'm ready to deal with the implications, we'll have to anyway. Legally, morally, spritually, we've been staring down the barrel of this particular gun for decades. Soon, if not now, we will have a cloned member of society. Will it be property of the original? Is it it's own person? etc. It would be better to have some guidelines in place before this happens, though. That is why the government has banned it in this country. Lots of debate, work, and re-writing of basic laws, to define the rights/definitions of a clone. [edit]: This thread has a purpose. Arguments and emotions aside, this is a legitimate topic that should be openly discussed, and viewpoints assesed. I would enjoy seeing what viewpoints are stated, whether they be distasteful or offensive, because it could make a valuable impact in my own ideas. If ideas aren't shared, there can be no comparison. I believe PhLaKz'R had the same intent in mind as he posted the topic. At least I hope he did. Last edited by ÜBER<>POOP; 23-July-04 at 06:32 PM.. Reason: justification for the thread. | |

| The problem with cloning is that it is one of those things that is developed for a good cause, but could easily be used for military advantage, or something worse perhaps that we havn't even thought of yet. It reminds of the invention of nuclear energy. Developed to find a new source of energy to better our lives, and then turned into something catastrophic like the nuclear bomb. Although it may have ended ww2 early saving the lives of many allied soldiers, it led to a domino effect of fear and came closer to destroying the world then we might let ourselves believe. | ||

The subject has nothing to do with politics or religion unless someone brings either of the two into it. human cloning is a practice of science, which goes hand in hand with technology. I agree the subject has the potential to start a political or religious flame war but this community has proven time and time again that a majority of it's members are able to play well with others in this sort of situation. i for one am not a big fan of cloning and i think there are alot of very serious implications that can be associated with it if it is allowed to be performed without some very specific guidelines. mainly guidelines that would disallow a cloned human being to be given life, cloned animal experiments gone very wrong are a perfect example of just what can go wrong, not to mention the problems that have yet to be seen. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
