Default Broke my Schwinn.....Oops.....

Was racing my Schwinn chopper mod, the Ocean Krate, against a couple of my buddies who live nearby earlier this evening, had a good 40 or 50 foot lead, well I threw the shift lever in 3rd, got about 3/4 through 3rd and was about to click into 4th and heard a snap and what sounded like parts rotating inside my rear wheel hub at high velocities, hearing that sound at 30-plus is scary as hell considering I already went to the ER for whacking a storm drain on my 78' Traveler, exactly one year ago today, well I stopped, flipped it over and took out the quick release levers, the inner axle, and with the inner axle came half of the outer axle.

It appears I rode the thing so hard that I managed to snap my axle clear in half.

In the pic, you see the first half of the outer axle, then the second half, and the inner QR lever below it.

^^^ Goober.

Could have been worse. Could have been the front wheel.

BTW is this like the month where all car batteries die or something? I just replaced mine after the old one died, two of my co-workers on 3rd shift and another on first needed a jump.

Even worse, a walmart schwinn trike

At least you've got like two other bikes to get around on j-dogg, though that would scare the crap out of me if that happened to me

That needs custom paint, flames, some chrome and a sound system.

And about 30 inches of rake.

Keys I got a car. The other two bikes are weekend playtoys. The chopper is the Saturday night cruising the local dragstrip playtoy

No kidding, I am dead serious, I get more looks from people when I'm on the chopper than I do when I'm in the car. Anyone can get a 1991 Ford Probe 3.0, not everyone can have a customized Schwinn chopper. Not just ladies, little kids, even old men. everyone for that matter. Anyone who grew up as a kid in the late 60's early 70's can relate to this bike. Zennbro had a Lemon Peel, the yellow version of the Schwinn Stingray. The mechanics at the local Schwinn-authorized dealer about crapped their pants when they saw it. They have been helping out with the mod from day one, they fabricated the clip that the 5-speed Stik-Shift clamps onto the top tube with.

I still think you're cool j-dogg

Back in my teen days I did a road trip to the Jersey Shore with my friends. We rode about 110 miles in one day (I rode my Parris Sport 10-speed). In the weeks before we rode, I made some speakers outta some cardboard boxes and stuffed in some speakers from a Mecedes Benze. Mounted them to my handle bars, wired them to a Boom-Box mounted on top of my rear saddle bag rack. I rode all the way down with stereo sound blastin (as high-Fi as it got in 1981). Yea, I got some looks as we rode through the streets of Princeton. Damn, that was fun!
