Didn't see these posted anywhere, so if you haven't heard already.. hold on.
Intel
With the upcoming release of their
new processors, one will notice something is lacking. The
Alderwood and Grantsdale chips have no connector pins. They're all contact based, and the "pins" are now located on the motherboards themselves.
As well, Intel is apparently including an
overclocking-prevention mechanism into the 915/925 chipsets. And from what this article says (Slashdot), Asus and Gigabyte are the first to find a way around this. Hopefully other
mobo manufactures follow suit.
Microsoft
A lot of people are really waiting for the coming release of
SP2, with all the great new features, why not?
Well they really screwed up on a good thing.
After a lot of research (or so they tell us), findings show that most security holes and issues are due to compatibility with
"legacy" programs. Older programs from 98 and prior will apparently have compatibility removed from XP completely.
Removing backwards compatibility will not only hurt the end user, but really piss a ton of people off. Here is a
good read on SP2 and this issue.
They're really making this difficult for everyone. Both companies need to see the problems that will occur from this. No more OCing?! Guess AMD will be getting an even larger boost of mod enthusists.
