Default 'Tis the movie season...

Anyone see "Shrek 2" yet?

I just seen it and can't hardly remember a thing except that I thought it had great character development (as much as you can for a cartoon) and that the jokes were extremely fresh (not stale like the last one). Definate must see...if not in the theater, buy it or rent it.

So far, it seems like the big 5 this year is off to a good start...

1. Troy (fantastic but why?...trying to cash in on the Gladiator crowd?)
2. Shrek 2 (funny, funny, funny, and...oh yeah, FUNNY!)
3. Day After Tomorrow (see the preview over two months ago...I can't wait!)
4. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (huge Potter fan...it'll rock, especially with Gary Oldman)
5. Spiderman 2 (well, I'll have to wait and see)

Don't know for sure, but I'm guessing the big hit for me this season comedy-wise will probably be "Dodgeball".

Yes, Van Helsing was really kick*ss, but it wasn't considered to be one of the blockbusters this year (although they possibly should have with the new Spiderman...I'm skeptical about this one).

I didn't mention it because of the touchy subject that, for some reason or another, will set some zealots off the edge. I took the movie for what it was. Others are rigid in their interpretations of what "universe" each character belonged and that none of these characters all lived in the same "universe".

I took it for what it was, an alternate reality with a definate spin to the characters.

Definate blockbuster in my book anyday; however, the "experts" only sound off about the top five.

I am highly anticipating All the other ones mentioned plus these ones too; Chronicles Of Rid****, RE2:Apocolypse, Aliens vs. Predator, and The Bourne Supremecy.

Shrek2 was actually pretty good, the more I thought about it the more I feel it was as good as the first Shrek.

Rob have you seen Troy? I saw it with like 20 people and not a one thought it was half-way decent!

The dodgeball movie's going to be awesome though. I was the president and founder of the dodgeball club at my school (was=graduating) and I was wondering why so many people were joining towards the end of this year. All anticipation.

Tycoon, HP is due to be released on the 4th of June.

Sexy Pants, yeah, I did see "Troy" so that's why I included that comment of "Why?". Yeah, it was great in terms of the special effects and storyboarding, but I didn't enjoy it because the entire time I was sitting there asking myself, "Why?".

Mostly because I think Warner was extremely jealous of the sucess that Dreamworks had with "Gladiator" (especially when they released "Battlefield Earth" the following week) and wanted to cash in. This is the soonest they could get that type of movie rolling in the theatres.

I'm not for sure if anyone else has ever noticed, but movies tend to be released in bulk by the big companies all centered around a specific point/theme/whatever. One of the biggest examples I can give you is Disney's "Bug's Life" and Dreamworks "Antz", both released in the late summer of 1998 within a few weeks of each other. Tends to happen quite often.

With AVP, I'm sure that they wanted to slot it for a mid to late summer release as not to conflict with the other blockbusters of the year (happens all the time) so I guess it was pretty lucky with some of the production troubles they've been having. I'm sure that Universal has to be nervous due to the lackluster response that "Pitch Black" got under USA Films (personally, I thought it stunk!). I think that the reason for that lackluster reponse is that they pitched the movie in the trailers that the creatures had an evil origin. However, once the movie was out, we find out that is was nothing more than the local wildlife on an eating binge. Might as well had rampaging, hungry bears.

Bourne is going to be cool although they might be stretching the storyline a bit. It could come over great if they can actually treat this as a continuation of the first and close the final chapter on the movie. Most movies will allow for a seperation period (i.e., the time between Star Wars IV and V and between V and VI is a good example of that) and it breaks the "flow", if you will.

RE2. Well, any movie that has Milla running around half-naked (or fully) will definately rock! Oh, that reminds me. A good friend of mine has a 35 second fight scene with Milla in a church in her new upcoming movie, "Ultraviolet". Milla plays Violet, a vampire who changes her mind and protects a young boy from the rest of the vampires. My friend, who looks pretty evil himself, will be wearing a red jacket and goatee (I think he said he'd be swinging a sword...I'll have to ask him).

Rob

Edit on 5/25: Going back to what I was saying about "bulk" films, I just learned today that Warner Brothers (same company who released "Troy") is releasing a film later this year around the beginning of November entitled "Alexander" with Colin Farrell, Angelina Jolie, and Val Kilmer. Same genre of film; however, released 10 months apart (didn't want direct competition with another one of their films). Oh, Oliver Stone directed it so I imagine their will be a consipracy on how Val Kilmer's character kills Colin Farrell's character............back, and to the left....back, and to the left.

Im a HP fan and am waiting anxiously for the release of the film. Me and some friends are going to head over to the IMAX to watch it on their ungodly big screen with like 15000 Watts of surrounds sound. Should be incredible.

From what I have heard from early reviews, it leaves some of the character development out that made the book so good, such as the explanation of the main charachters in the Shreaking Shack, and the last train seen is left out alltogether. Hopefully the managed to pull it off, but even if they didn't, I am guessing it will be the best of the 3 movies so far.

Now I just need school to be over.

IMAX + regular movies != good movie experience, in my own opinion.

The movies aren't made for such a huge screen, and the IMAX is made so the screen has its focus on the center, being more immersive. This leads to the edges of the screen being a bit harder to see. At least, that's what I think. Last time I saw a regular movie on the imax, however, they just only used a little bit of the screen. That worked alright, though SWAT sucked.

i have seen many movies in the past couple of years(most of em free) and i think ive become a movie critic who doesn't get paid and is ignored.
shrek 2 was good first one better but i did rather enjoy watching the starbucks get crushed and all the people fleeing to the one across the street.

Ugh I go to the theaters every friday lol...

Shrek 2 was hilarious. So many funny parts.

If you haven't seen Troy, you really need to. Great movie....the only thing I didn't like about it was how they did not explain Achilles background too much. But that wasn't a big deal.

Hmm I don't know. It is harder, but directors typically don't want everything in focus at once. The mark of a good director of photography is mastery over movement of the eye. Of course, if you're at the front row of an IMAX sometimes you won't see what's in the corner at all. But in general I think bigger screen=more immersive once you get past that. I mean hey, I liked Matrix Revolutions when I saw it there

I'm really looking forward to AVP. Even if it might suck, I've been wanting it to happen for ages.

scape and I saw Shrek 2 on saturday night, and we thought it was great. Very funny! I don't have much of a desire to go see too many of the new flicks, but I do think I will be seeing The Day After Tomorrow, when it comes out. I'll probably be dragged to see Spider Man 2 with my brothers, but it looks like it could be good. As for Troy.. hmm. Naah!

Yeah I think a lot of people have been waiting for AvP, so it will definitely have a big audience...even if it does suck. I don't think it will be too bad though

well originaly the charicters wernt pure evil, in their original creations, the wolfman just hapened to be bit by sa wearwolf, its not his fault. monster frankenstein wasnt evil, he just acsedently killed people and didnt really know it was bad. it portrays them nicly

its also rather acurate to the anime(its a sequal to an anime)
