Question LG Electronics

Anyone have any experience with LG Electronics? I'm considering buying their Flatron 17" LCD, simply because it's the only LCD within my price range that has DVI. I've checked out NewEgg and tried some searches for reviews on their products, but the only thing that I could find out is that it's a Korean company and not much else.

If anyone has any experience or alternative ideas (low $500's LCD with DVI), please let me know. I would try NewEgg but their policy on a minimum of 8 dead pixels for RMA doesn't seem like a deal to me no matter what the cost.

Thanks!

Oh, the pic below was ripped from an online retailer; however, I cut the hole out of the screen because I didn't want to advertise for this paticular company (plus I'm sure it would get me kicked off of here, too).

why does it have to have DVI? from what I have heard, the quality of monitors etc isn't good enough to tell the difference yet anyway.

I got no clue as to there LCD's but I used to sell verizon cell phones and they were on the last place of all the makers for quality ( most rma's were do to the lcd back plate cracking ). Hope this helps a little and can anyone else throw in their opinion.

I want the DVI because of the improved quality (which, from what I hear, is slightly better) and that you can actually get HDTV quality out of it. I may be wrong so I'm trying to double-check that statement.

With the LCD's cracking, that's why I wanted to buy it (shudder!) at a local major retailer to get the three year service plan. Most service plan on electronics is nothing but a piece of crap, but I feel that on an LCD monitor, it'd be a good idea.

Any alternatives?

They make Verizon cell phones and my friend's friend's dad raves about them. I had a 52x CD-ROM from them and I liked it.

LGE is affiliated with Zenith, Goldstar, Micron, and Phillips, among many others. They've been making monitors and TV's under one name or another for around 70 years. There stuff is OK, not great but acceptable.

I think LG is a great company. My first CD-RW drive was from them. It was great. The thing that impressed me most was their outstanding technical service. My CD-RW drive broke, so I emailed them about the warranty. They sent me a shipping label, I stuck the label on the box, and in 3 days I had myself a new drive. I never have had any more flaws with that drive.

So, if you want a fairly good product with outstanding tech support to back it up, buy LG.

You can do better than ViewSonic also. One company that I've been keeping an eye on is Planar. For the money they seem to have exceptional performance.

LG is a massive company so at least you know they will be around to honor their warrenty. I have only had a CDRW from them and it is rock solid. It now resides in my goddaughters computer but is well over 3 years old and has seen a higher then average number of burns.

NEC, ViewSonic and SONY, 3 best brands in my opinion. You could go with a smaller company but don't be suprised if they are based out of a jungle in Africa and don't have english tech support.

When it comes to LCD's I like Samsung. The new 172 XT looks stellar, and has a 12ms response time.

I agree with putwig on that, samsung has been producing some nice LCDs this year, my opinion was based on CRTs...

LG has had an extremely high failure rate for me, I'd stay away from their optical drives.
Havent had experience with their LCD's.

Samsung is an excellent LCD make, only LCD's I've seen with response fast enough to game on.

how about the sony hx73, i love the look of it and so tempted to get one while my girlfriend doesn't notice ive got some spare cash

LG make the screens for philips as i remember, most of their plasmas are actually made by them, i always though they had good products are very reasonables prices, LG is quite a big producer of products in the uk and know tons of people with an array of products from tv's to fridges

another point about dead pixels it depends on the manufacturers policy and classification on their class b screens, most don't care if dead pixels are under 8

I personally use a DELL 1900FP. I love this monitor. It has been going strong now for over 2 years with not 1 problem at all. I got it for under 5 benjamins. Dell sends out coupons alot and I was able to get a 20% which was stackable with the 15% they were already giving off the price. I would have to say I got a steal of a deal.

A buddy of mine is running a Hynudai 17inch flat panel and man that thing is awesome as well. I was thinking Hyundai must be crap but it isnt. He has had it for 18 months now and it is also still going strong with no problems.

I have also heard good things about the BenQ monitors.
