| Thats not a very good challenge - that should be plenty of cash....... I like ERADs list but might I suggest in addition to the above stuff you grab a Western Digital Raptor. 10K RPM of unholy level loading power - if you dont know what it is its a Serial ATA hard drive that runs at 10000 RPM - seriously sped up be load times with Call of Duty. Should run a $120ish ......... | ||

| Don't forget, get a DVD drive (gotta have the UT2K4 special ed) so that'll be 40 some, 120 ish if you want a DVD burner of your choice of format. I'd go with the MX Wireless Duo, 100 at Bestbuy. (you said you need everything but speaker and monitor) Oh, and I'd drop the sound card. You've got an NF7-S with onboard Soundstorm, you really don't need a sound card, really, it's good. | ||

| Apex Tech Fanatic Supreme | $1000 w/ tax? Are you going to overclock his computer? Is his computer for gaming? Heres ERAD's list but edited/additions Athlon XP 2500 $75 ABIT NF7-S $85 9800 Pro $209 Mushkin 512MB PC4000 $146 Harddrive - I saw one in a FRYs ad (120gb 8mb buffer WD for ~$90) MX700 mouse/keyboard duo for $75 Sound - I don't really see a need for the audigy, onboard should be sufficient for most people. Maybe since that would leave you with money left over you can get 512x2 ram or a amd64 system setup instead of the barton. EDIT: kinda realized that I just said what jcarkeys just said. But you can get the mx duo at better deal online ![]() | |

| $1000? AMD Athlon 64 3000+ ($220) Abit K8V Pro ($110) 2x512mb PC-4000 A-Data Viesta* ($200) ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb ($175) 160gb SATA HD ($95) Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS ($80) Logitech Cordless MX Duo ($75) Lite-On 8x DVD+-RW ($80) $1035... A little over but well worth it, if $1000 is a SOLID number either; a.) Drop the SB Audigy 2 ZS if your speakers arn't top end, don't vain, money isn't b.) Drop the A64 to the 2800+ model if you OC'ing can take a back seat *OC's to 270-290mhz regularly, has broken 300mhz (DDR600) on occation with 3.2v | ||

Alright, in that case I've got some ammendments to my idea. A64 2800+ ($180) MSI K8T NEO-FSR ($92) 2x512mb PC-3200 Corsair Value Select CL2.5 ($185) Radeon X800 pro 256mb ($400)* Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS ($80) 160gb SATA HD ($95) Antec Sonata Case (comes with good PSU) ($90) *buy at Compusa or Bestbuy online, they are the only ones selling for $400 that comes to $1122 total, if the $1000 thing is really a big deal then drop the A64 2800+ and the Motherboard and get an Athlon XP 2500+ ($90) and a Shuttle AN35R Motherboard ($54) which gets you under the cap. The $400 for the X800 video card is WORTH IT, that thing is more than double the performance of the 9800 Pro 128mb ($175) and for just over double the cost, trust me... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
