| Ok so I was getting ready to buy this nice JVC Deck, and get satillite radio installed as well. Come to find out the deck is Sirius satillite ready and not XM Sateliate radio ready which is what I was getting. Now my question is does this matter or does it mean that it is just satillite radio ready? | ||

| Yeah I think they make them that way. Speaking of car audio. Whats a good way to get a nice sound without going overboard? I have a 99 S-10 Truck with an Ex cab. Factory Deck but i have infinity 4x6's on the dash and 6 1/2's on the doors. I really don't want to advertise either. | ||

| They are de4signed that way because both XM and Sirius signed contracts with different manufacturers. I know Sony, Pioneer and Kenwood are all XM, and I believe JVC, Panasonic, and Alpine make Sirius capable stuff. I am surwe I left out a few. If you are set on XM over Sirius then I would recommend one of the mid to high range Pioneer decks. Crutchfield had a nice one last time I checked. | ||

| To answer your question, a Sirius deck cannot receicve XM signals. They are satellite radio services. XM is the original, Sirius is a competitor. I've never used either, but it stands to reason that their offerings will likely be similar, but different. XM offers 121 streams, (68 streams of music) and Sirius offers 110 streams, 60 of which are music. Last edited by Joose; 21-May-04 at 12:20 PM.. | ||

IÂ’d say add 2 6x9's in the back. Definitely replace the stock radio with a newer deck, preferably something around 18-20W RMS x 4 Channels. If you want a little more power you could add a small amplifier, around 100-200W RMS. Preferably 4 channels with a crossover to give you a clearer signal. I am a big Kenwood fan for speakers and decks, but for amps I really like Rockford Fosgate. If you go to crutchfield.com you can select components that will fit your car specifically and they have pretty good instructions if you want to do it yourself.

| I had XM for a while (about 3 months) I hated it! I thought it was a waste of money! It was like the same songs over and over on the stations I liked. Which was only 5 stations. Now I have a nice JVC deck and I am considering trying Sirus....but I figure it will be the same as XM so I am still just considering it! But if you like to listen to the top ten songs over and over, GO FOR IT!!! Because that is what XM radio is all about. I would rather buy a very nice mp3 player and dump a bunch of music on it and go!! | ||

| Sirius is nice, my friend has it. We drove all the way to florida (24 hrs) and I never heard a repeat of a song. I dont know what kinda music you were refering to, this was country and bluegrass and junk like that (i know my friends mom and sister like it ....blah) | ||

| Phlak, you must have been listening to the "shatty" stations.......j/k In all seriousness, I enjoyed the XM for quite a while before having the service turned off (even went so far as to stealth-mod my antenna into my real spoiler...... which is NOT a ricer-type, btw) as I could no longer justify the extra expense. It was especially useful for getting the lowdown on new records to buy for my DJing and allowed me to listen to more than just the local stations when my computer was down for a couple of months. Sorry about the mixup on the Kenwood and Alpine units though. IMO, Alpine is overpriced for what you get. I would easily spend my money on a good (read this as top or near-top of the line model) Pioneer or Eclipse head unit and spend that additional money on better speakers which will net you better sound. EDIT: Before a flame war is started I feel I must clarify. I am not saying Alpines are bad units.... just overpriced in comparison to other brands with near identical specs. And yes, I am an audiphile so I generally only go for mid-range and above models for various manufacturers so you can right away eliminate most of the shoddy units. | ||

| Ok thats what I wanted to know. Im trying to decide weather just to spend the cash and get sirius or change my deck's and get XM. Edit: It looks like It will be cheaper to buy an XM ready deck then to get a Serius Deck and have to buy an Serius Reciever. So I found this deck over at BestBuy tell me what you think? Any suggestions? I would like to stay under that price. Last edited by Red02; 21-May-04 at 08:22 PM.. | ||

i am the exact same way. however, i love the alpines and i honestly think they sound better than all the others ive heard. besides, i already have high end speakers (boston pro series up front and boston rally series in back powered by a jl 300/4) so i dont really need to focus on my speakers anymore EDIT: Red, whether you buy an xm ready deck, or a sirius ready deck, you will still have to buy a seperate reciever which usually run aroud 150$. theres only one exception that i know of, and its the alpine cda-9820xm, which as far as i know is the only headunit on the market with a built in satellite radio reciever. if you are on a budget, that might be the way to go. take a look at it here. | Sony makes decent stuff too but I boycott them because of some shady business practices. This is the same price and also adds wma capabity along with the mp3 and XM capability. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-YBAlMIO...&avf=N&search=
