Speed? Depends ... cars just don't break in half like that, unless they're a "cut & shut" (an illegal "repair" consisting of two cars welded together). My guess is that was the case, and judging how small the debris field is, & noting the relatively small ding on the back bumper ... about 45mph.

Judging by the second picture, it looks like he spun backwards before hitting the tree. In any case, I'm guessing Jonny's right about the illegal weld job.

Good gravy!! I've certainly never seen a car do something like that. Yeah, I've seen them wrapped around trees, but that's nuts. I feel sorry for the person who was driving it.

Actually I've driven an Audi a co-worker has. They are flexiflyers, I could see it sheering in half if hit incorrectly/correctly..

I think we need to hold a candle light vigil for the tree, i mean the tree didnt do anything. and here people go taco'ing cars around them. what about the emotional trauma the other trees have went through witnessing that? poor poor trees.

And the person driving it, well nothing really to say. i feel bad that he died, but it was by his/her hand. OR it was because it was their time and this one seemed like the best time.

Authorities aren't sure if he died by his hand or not, they are still looking for it.

Ive. got a bunch more pics of that. They didn't use a sheet to cover the body, but just threw kleenex's at various spots on the ground.
