| Thanks bro. Ok, I am moving a away for at least six months and will take my main rig with me . She uses it to surf and play solitaire but it is stable , no glitches bla bla bla. I have an old Shuttle running an Xp2200 which is just way to old now to handle everything, Router, wireless phone, printer, fax.... When she moves up to where I am going however I will use the rig as a nice backup , I don't need to game on it but just want a fairly fast comp. She has a lappy but it's for work and doesn't always seem to work as well as my rig. The more silent the betterand again I will be using it a long time from now as a backup if that makes sense. Thanks fellaricans. | ||

| You might want to consider something like this as well Newegg.com - ASRock ION 330 NVIDIA ION 2 x 240Pin NVIDIA ION graphics Black Barebone - Barebone Systems Its basically a dual core atom machine with the nvidia ion graphics although i haven't herd much performance wise on these types of machines. *edit* Just read up more on this and apparently the whole nvidia ion scheme is just the dual core atom cpu in combination with a geforce 9400 mobile but with 2gb of ddr2 a 320gb hdd and a slim dvd drive not bad for $360. | I just purchased the following system, as outlined in my HTPC build thread (http://www.forumapex.com/project_wor...c_build.html): Apex DM-318 MicroATX Slim case - $44.99 Gigabyte GA-E7AUM MicroATX mobo - $129.99 Intel E5200 Wolfdale 2.5GHz dual-core cpu - $64.99 Patriot Extreme Performance Gaming DDR2 (PC6400) 800mhz, 4 GB (2x2GB) - $43.99 Anyware GP-IR01BK Infrared Remote - $24.99 I can tell you the onboard video card for the mobo is a Geforce 9400, with 512 MB RAM dedicated. It's quite capable of handling my 720p display, and could probably up to a 1080p without much problem. The only difficulty I'm having with my media center right comes from the two parts I kept from previous builds: the DVD and the HDD. The DVD is so long, it prevents me from using the dual-channel RAM in two different channels, which has some impact to performance. This will eventually be replaced with a shorter, SATA drive for speed and the ability to update the RAM. The HDD is also an old (OLD) 80 GB PATA drive that is slowly dieing. Happily, I've only got the OS installed on it, as I'm waiting for my free copy of Win7 to arrive before I purchase a new HDD that can use the SATA ports and contain the 50+ movies digital movies I currently have on the external drive, and the digital editions I plan on making from the rest of my library. The Anyware remote works perfectly with Win7 media center, too. Truly flawless. Not so good with XP, I'm told. Total cost under $350 for the above parts, another $100 for planned upgrades. -Jon | ||
