| As it happens we are getting rid of about 100 old computers from work and the boss man has ordered them to be destroyed... I see this as a great opportunity for my destructive side to be unleashed I have been trying to come up with some sort of creative method of destruction, but alas I am out of ideas at the moment... any suggestions?? | ||

| How big are the drives? I might be willing to buy them and do the wipe. Such an environmental waste to destroy them and landfill the carcasses. Zero-writing is perfectly safe and you can get shareware to do it if you wanna spend the time. -MF | ||

| Well since these are coming from a school donating them to anyone would be more of a hinderance than a help as the IT department before the current one never threw anything out... MF These HardDrives are around 8 to 20 Gb each for the new stuff but they were part of our "Bone Pile" so they are pretty well shot already... but if you want them I can see. The HardDrives plus old CRT's and Cases from around the District are being loaded into a large rolloff to be taken to a recycling area at a local waste management facility. | ||

| 20G and lower - I couldn't even make shipping back unfortunately. If you're concerned about data security, I'd set up one old system and run a zero-write program. If it's a school system maybe a student can be tasked with the work for minimum wage or to work off some community service. -MF | ||

This would be quite interesting since we have enough to build a small fort in front of the entrance to bad the closest Mac building is 5 hours away... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Take apart Drives and take out magnets For a Wind Generator or just to play with. Use Blow Torch on Mobo to get various Parts, Then go to local Metal Recycling Co and sell the drives to get some money. From there they will be melted down and recycled into other things. Or take out the magnets and Use HDD platters as Art. Spin up the drive and apply paint and you'll get funky looking stuff (spin art!)-Make sure to keep the top on though, you'll get a line of paint on your shirt. Bake in Oven for 5 Minutes at 400F. This makes them nice and shiny. | ||
