Yea you do need physical access, but you may need UMAN again later, so I would switch it back after the fact.

Interesting though, completely useless security, passwords.....

But it can be quite handy if you own or someone you know own's the pc and forgot their password. Not to mention for thieving bastards.

I've been using a program called ERD Commander for a few years now. It's just a bootable version of Linux and it will let you do anything to your Windows files, XP, Vista or anything as far as I know. I'm sure these guys have a few new tools and updates, but it's basically the same old thing.
